Northern Lights Cinema Grill in Nampa IDI am a MAJOR movie hound.  I love comedies, dramas, horror (my favorite), independent films, big budget action flicks, those little foreign numbers, musicals...you name it, I will probably watch it.  I've even watched bad movies hoping they'll get better (Hey, 'Howard the Duck' actually wasn't that bad).  So, imagine my delight when I found Northern Lights Cinema Grill in Nampa, ID.

The owner of this wonderful two-theater cinema tore out every other row of seats and added a table in their place.  They don't show first-run movies.  If you're willing to wait and you still want that "movie theater feel", for $3 a ticket, you can watch a movie and have food and drinks delivered right to your seat while you watch.  Their inventory changes every couple of weeks.

On Tuesday nights, they offer their date night special.  For $22, you get two movie tickets, two entrees and two non-alcoholic drinks after 6:15pm.  If you want an alcoholic drink, it will cost you extra.  Since they do serve alcohol after 6pm, those shows are for ages 21 and over only (for legal reasons).  My husband and I just had our date night Tuesday where we saw 'Love and Other Drugs'.  We actually splurged and sprang an extra $6 so we could watch 'Unstoppable' earlier in the day.  Both were great and, for a little more than the price of just entering a regular movie theater on a weeknight, we were able to enjoy some decent food, too.

They also offer stand-up comedy shows sometimes.  I haven't been to one of those yet, but I plan on doing it soon.  They show UFC fights (just $10 each for the Silva vs Belfort fight on February 5, 2011...my dad would LOVE this) and will be holding a Super Bowl XLV party on February 6th (free admission, 21 and older only).

This has quickly become one of my favorite places to go.  I don't even feel the need to sneak in any soda or candy, since everything is so reasonably priced here. (Not that I "sneak" sweets and drinks in to regular movie theaters or anything.)  If you're in the Nampa area, check out Northern Lights Cinema Grill.  It's the best deal in town!

What a neat idea!  I  have never heard of anything like this.  We have a struggling move theater here and I'm wondering if that concept would work for them.  Then they could still preserve the lovely, old building that they are in.  Thanks!

Heather -- I can see why it's your favorite place to go. Was that a typo? $3 a ticket?? lol ... and $22 for the date night special?  What a bargain for what sounds like a great time!

Heather, they're restoring the old Franklin Cinema in downtown Franklin and I think it's going to be similar to this. I can't wait!

Brenda - Where we used to live in Moreno Valley, CA had an older movie theater that showed movies for $2 matinee/$3 regular price.  However, it was an 8-theater movie theater and didn't serve food as well.  I found that this was where people were the rudest and most loud.  I think that was because they felt, since they didn't pay much for the ticket, they could act however they wanted.  However, in the Northern Lights movie theater, people are still respectful and you aren't as crowded.  I would love for this to catch on.

No, Barbara.  That wasn't a typo - $3 per ticket.  They don't show the same movie over and over.  You're limited in times available.  But, it's SO worth it!  They show movies that have left the regular movie theater but haven't quite been released to video yet or have JUST been released to video.

That would be awesome, Connie.  I think you'd love it.
