Mountains of Snow

We have been hit hard with snow this winter.  At first, it was an interesting diversion, but this last 14 inches of snow (on top of who knows how many feet) is getting tiring.  The snowblower is great for the driveway, but we can't get it onto the deck so we have to shovel that by hand.

Mountains of snow

It's great snowman-building snow, but it's not fun when it sticks to the shovel and weighs a ton.  I finished the deck so my dog Java would be able to get outside.  Here are a few pictures of the mountain of snow around my deck and how deep it is compared to the trees and gazebo.

Here is another picture of my backyard.More snow

It is pretty to look at, but I am wondering what is going to happen when it all melts, as it must do at some point.  Not to mention the icicles hanging from my gutters that are so big that I think they will pull the gutters off the house.  They could also impale someone.

Huge icicles

And finally, just to put it all in perspective, here is my husband (5'11") standing next to the snow on the driveway.

Even more snow

Our world is at a standstill, and I don't mind that.  After I have another cup of coffee, I might take a walk and see what other pictures I can snap while the snow is still a beautiful white.   Or I might just stay inside where it's nice and warm.

Hi Peggy,  Brrrr, that cup of coffee sounds like the only way to go!  Unbelievable the snow you have gotten out there this year!  And I thought we had it bad..... guess, I should be grateful it isn't any deeper than it is!

Hi Brenda - I did choose the coffee!  I don't even want to read the weather forecast just in case more is coming!

People are starting to mutter the 'drought' word out here. I was just wondering, does your husband insist on shoveling the roof, like mine does?

Peggy all this snow is crazy and we are suppose to be getting more.  I don't know where I am going to put it.

Those feet and feet of snow are making the news down here in San Diego where we are suffering with 75° days right now. Those icicles are particularly pretty.

We had about 15" of snow - and total so far this season, whopping 60+". If we go by law of averages, there should be no snow from now to spring 2011 - but..forecast is, snow tomorrow, snow day after tomorrow and day after, too!

Just a side note, Peggy, I have blogged about your comment on my recent post about the Craigslist scam. Please do visit (and

Hi Joetta - My husband would shovel the roof if it wasn't suicide!  Just this morning, we had several articles in the paper about roofs collapsing, including a barn roof that fell on some horses, who had to be euthanized.  So sad and a real threat!

Hi George - I can't even read the forecast, but I hear there is no end in sight!

Hi Jim - Everyone here is thinking about where they want to move! San Diego must be nice! And I am glad you think the icicles are beautiful--I think they're awful (I guess beauty really is in the eye of the beholder!).

Hi Praful - Our paper this morning said that we have had 71 inches this winter (nice chart to go with it) and yes more is coming!  I did stop by your blog--I hope a lot of people see it.

Peggy, you have A LOT of snow out there, and looks like it could produce flooding when it melts!    Staying inside and staying warm with a cup of coffee sounds like a GREAT idea!
