Scent of your Blog

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Daytona Condo Realty, 386-405-4408

Did you ever watch how a dog is sniffing every piece of turf? All concentration, all attention… The dog is getting information from this scent and we can only imagine how much information they are capable to get and digest…

When people (both professionals and customers) read our blog, it provides a lot of information to a curious mind, and not only from the content.

Sniffing DogYes, we will pay attention to visuals, font, colors, layout… But we will also derive information about the blogger. Even the same fonts, colors, layouts tell us something. We notice if it is a hastily put together quickie or a well thought and prepared post.

We can be drawn by passion, sincerity... appalled by sloppiness, poor grammar, careless typos. We can sense it as cheesy, or classy, intense, or just water…

We feel when someone is trying to impress us, and we sense when dealing with impersonators, even often we can't describe how we know that.

Writing exposes a lot. It is far beyond  just content. It exposes us, the bloggers. People derive a lot from reading our blogs. They are either drawn to them and become our followers, or just scroll to someone else. Deep in their heart they know that we all work with the same properties. Properties are given. What is not given? A personality of the agent, their traits that can either attract or push away.

They will eventually list a home. When they figure with whom.

They will eventually buy a home. When they figure with whom.

Jon,

I thought your post was great.  I especially like the part about the "feeling" we get from others and sensing an impersonator, even when we can't put our finger on how we know that. I get a bad "feeling" from those that only talk about how wonderful they are.

I get a good "feeling" from you so I'm gonna subscribe to you - thanks

I just reblogged in Southern Maryland with this message:

I love this post. It is so true. Riley Rover sniffs me from one end to the other when I get home. I figure he knows if I have stopped for a snack without him. Or if another dog has gotten near me. Or if I have been by Nana and Grandpops whom he adores.

I remember what my mentor told me when I started RE in 1999: Fake it till you make it......I admit, I did and it helped...

Mike - that's why I do not understand when agents are pushed to write. Some can, some can't. Those who can have a great tool in their hands.

Jimmy - I think it is a winning situation botshed awayu, annd when they are puh when they are drawn to yo. Because we are not going to be good with everyone. Those who would not come to  us, because we are too different, will save us time and aggravation

Yes.  I sometimes find, when I meet someone around town, that they already met me.  Right here.

Jon after reading your blog I feel so exposed.  -- LOL.  Great blog and so true.  After reading tons of blogs here on AR I do feel like I have a sense of quite a few people, and I'm sure they now have a sense of who I am too.

Cindy - if it would be so easy to fool, there would be so many great actors, but that's not the case. To fool takes more time and effort, then to win by being yourself.

Tim - I once read that when people are asked what made them make a choice, what they say is not what actually pushed them. They are simply trying to justify the  move, and come up with what suits their action.

I guess that it is rather quick, but we can't really explain why.

Jon, this is deep. Necessarily so, because sometimes we do not realize that many people are reading "us" as people, not just the content we post for their consumption.

karen - I would not worry. I would not watch myself in the mirror. Let it flow. you will attract some, you will turn away some. The beauty of it is those who you attracted will woirk better with you than those who left.

They are simply not your clients.
