The Presence of Absence: Columbia Museum of Art

Now through Sunday, January 23, 2011
This is the last weekend for this very interesting show. If you are a fan of unique artistic expression, you'll be captivated. Dill’s work can be both ephemeral and spiritual, drawing on her travels in India and her interest in Buddhism, as she uses bronze, photography, poetry, thread, wire and paper to sculpt figures and build tapestries. Her pieces give visual form to poetic texts by Emily Dickinson, Salvador Espriu, Franz Kafka and others. For Dill, words are her ‘spiritual armor’ and she freely stitches and weaves them across the surfaces of her multi-layered works. Columbia Museum of Art in downtown Columbia.

Saturday, January 29, 2011
Performed by the Columbia, SC based rock quartet Tokyo Joe, the Rocket Man Tribute conforms to the model of a real Elton John concert. Cinderella: Koger Center for the Arts

Friday February 4, 2011 - Saturday February 5, 2011
Fairy tales can come true, it can happen to you... especially if you’re in the audience at Columbia City Ballet’s Cinderella.
Like its ballet sibling Romeo & Juliet, Cinderella was composed by Sergei Prokofiev during World War II and was first performed by the Bolshoi in 1945. The production, based on the French fairy tale as told by Charles Perrault, centers on the theme of a young girl’s honesty and modesty triumphing over the greed and arrogance of her stepsisters and stepmother. This classic features Regina Willoughby and Mark Krieger in the lead roles, with the comic brilliance of the stepsisters portrayed by two local actors en travesti. See how the young heroine finds love and triumphs over the greed and scorn of her stepfamily as she discovers how one shoe can change her life. “Handsomely produced and marvelously danced, Cinderella made every fan’s wishes come true.” Savannah Morning News
