Coldwell Banker signs in the snowIt dawned on me in the midst of today's five hour shoveling marathon that real estate may be picking up in Florida this year.

Here in chilly Massachusetts we're on track to break records for snowfall.

We are buried.  There simply isn't anywhere else to put snow. And it's only January.  And the seven day forecast shows snow on two days.

Lately I keep hearing more and more about Florida:

  • My coworker went to Florida at Christmas - for a week - and has yet to return.

  • My client bought two properties in Florida recently.

  • My brother just got back from a week in Florida and spent a good part of his vacation daydreaming about Florida real estate opportunities.

  • Even my parents - diehard New Englanders and winter weather enthusiasts - have started to talk about how nice it would be to be warm with no snow.

I think a winter like we're experiencing this year has the potential to convince plenty of people that a warm weather property is just the ticket.

Better get ready Florida agents - the snowbirds are coming!

Liz, It will be interesting to see what happens with your prediction.  Stay warm up there.  We're getting hit hard too.

Elizabeth - It's been 30 degrees in Florida this winter.  Sunny, but not very warm.  Maybe further south, like the Virgin Islands???

Ft. Lauderdale has had it's share of cold weather, too.  But no snow, no ice and no temperatures under 32 degrees!  I would love to see a lot of snowbirds fly into Ft. Lauderdale with cash in hand with real estate on their minds.

COME ON DOWN!

Based on the weather in the South this year I think we have to move all the way to the islands.  It was really hard to get on the plane to come back from Jamaica after New Year.

Liz, aaawww... come on... you would miss all this snow! Because I really don't like heat at all, that is not an option for me. But what I do want is a good snow blower and a set of Blizzak snow tires... these all weather tires are not making me feel warm and fuzzy!

GOOD MORNING LIZ!  Ahhhh ... and then there are people like me who swelter in the desert sun dreaming of snow and ice! So the upside is, desert dwellers will be looking for cold weather retreats and homes to buy - perhaps in Cambridge! -- G

Liz - My sister bought last year, friends a few months later, and Florida was a frequently discussed topic at a recent party. Enough of the snow!

My sister-in-law is dreaming of California. We had a balmy weekend for her visit, and now she's shoveling snow in Gaithersburg, MD, watching her shrubbery bend from the weight of snow.

Hi Gloria ~ What a winter! Funny how you get adjusted to the temperature - anything in the 30s starts to feel warm - but the snow clogged streets are another story...

Hi Erica ~ I really do think it will have a good impact on sales in warm weather locales. This is a winter that people won't soon forget.

Hi Gail ~ Ouch!! We won't let the snowbirds know.  I think Florida still wins out since it's possible to drive there - anything to avoid flying.

Hi Elaine ~ They're coming believe me! The magic words - "no snow".

Hi Stacey-Ann ~ I swear the weather is starting to feel like those tacky (but I love 'em!) natural disaster movies on TV.  I knew things had gone topsy turvy when the South got more snow than us last year. Pay back's a bear though. We're not laughing now.

Hi Andrea ~ I am all about moderation when it comes to weather - I really don't like either extreme.  Extreme seems to be what we're getting this year.

Hi Gabrielle ~ I like the way you think! No doubt about it - this kind of weather has its fans - think of the skiers.

Hi Judy ~ More and more people are talking about Florida that's for sure. Is it as bad where you are as it is in the city?

Hi Lottie ~ She must have such fond memories of that vacation!  This is a year for bush tents for sure.  My lilacs were (I think - I probably won't get to check until spring) wiped out by the large limbs that fell from my pine tree in the storm before last (or maybe it was the one before that) and I was thinking as I shoveled (lots of time to think - and compose blogs posts in my head!) that I'll have to get bush tents when I finally put in the blueberry bushes I've planned.

Liz - Boston has had a more snow than the Plymouth area. Although, we have had more than our fair share too! Check out my latest snow photos in my last blog post. Begging for Mercy

Hi Judy ~ That was a brilliant post on so many levels - loved it! I'm inspired. Snow sure is pretty but enough already huh?! I am floored that there's another storm in the forecast.

Liz, I hate to hear that it's so cold there.  I do believe that your predictions may be correct, because we have been very busy and we have had some gorgeous weather (a couple of cold snaps, but they don't last very long).   Stay warm. Not to rub it in, but thought you might enjoy the slideshow.
