The comments on a blog post are oft-times as illuminating as any post hopes to be.

Don't be a "Secret" Agent!!

I received this WONDERFUL comment the other day on a post about technology today:

Comment by Carla Harbert - RE/MAX Pros of Westlake, Ohio:  "Unless you prefer to be a "secret" agent, it is imperative in today's world to have an online presence and more."

Wow, Carla hit the nail on the head!

What steps are you taking as an agent to spread the word about who you are and what you're doing?

Google - Facebook - Twitter - LinkedIn - Plaxo - MySpace - The Cloud - Sikku - YouTube - Flickr

As much as these terms and names may trigger misgivings, fears, and trepidation - there are lots of folks out there willing to help, or you can even hire someone.

Here's some good references for learning:

Great point and love the photo! I like to use: Facebook, LinkedIn, Tumblr, Real Town, Blogger, Trulia, and of course, Active Rain. Not only does it give me exposure, but more importantly, it gives exposure to a clients listing!

I would caution about trying to be in too many places and looking average or less at any of them because you’re spread too thin. Pick a few and then be the best. There’s plenty of real estate business to go around.

Cara, excellent points! Don't hide all that good knowledge and experience, get it out there where people are looking! I spent the last 2 days working on my Video presentation, to "get it out there!"

Call a Marana neighbor, I'm THERE!

Shannon - wow - you are OUT there.  I really like Active Rain, and network with Facebook and Twitter, and the feeds go on LinkedIn - but that's about all I can handle.  There's a few other things I dabble in, but I see the most results with AR and Facebook.

Jim - EXCELLENT advice - pick a few and make a "statement".  Mike and David listed in my post above tell everyone to just do what you can, and what feels comfortable.  It's best to WHAT you do, the best way you can, using the best expertise that you can as well.

Don - I think you're out there! Love the "voice" you use in your posts - now we'll get to hear your voice in your new video!

Most definitely.  I bet a lot of people who say they don't have any interest in using social media do so because they are afraid of it.

Thanks for the kind words Cara.

It appears the student has taught the teacher!

You mentioned 2 social networks I didn't know about: The Cloud - Sikku

Got a url for us?

Often a social network/ social bookmarking site credits a user for bringing another user in...

I'm thinking I should join off of your link perhaps?

AR credits us for bringing in other paying (upgraded) AR members

I'm always looking for more Facebook friends so here's my url: Local Google Advertising

@Jim Frimmer : Being spread too thin isn't a good reason to not build exposure (in my mind anyway)

I do local SEO for a living... it takes hundreds of man-hours to attain Google TrustFactor in certain genres (keyword phrases), being in the real estate industry we've got to compete against juggernauts:

Realtor dot com

Truilia

real estate dot yahoo dot com

I belong to 245 social bookmarking networks, 145 SEO forums, I counsel my SEO students to sign up for Addthis.com (put the addthis toolbar on your FireFox browser, not on IE) and sign up for, at a BARE MINIMUM a half dozen social bookmarking sites:

  1. Digg.com
  2. Delicious.com
  3. StumbleUpon.com
  4. Reddit.com
  5. Buzz.yahoo.com
  6. Jumptags.com

See...and that's why David is the EXPERT!  I'd provide the Sikku url, but I'm a user through my broker realty with a free account.  I've emailed them (Sikku) for more information.

I haven't used the cloud - I unfortunately have windows Vista, not windows 7, which I believe is necessary.  My post was mainly about bringing to light many of the avenues agents can check out to see what works for them in getting themselves out there -- on line.
