Today I had a conversation with a gentleman who wanted a drip marketing campaign.
We discussed who would be getting the letters, how long each message should be, and what he wanted to convey to people. Then he asked me "Do you have some kind of special tricks you use in your letters?"
When I asked what he meant, he explained that he was highly educated and could write very well. He wanted to know if there was something special I could do that he could not.
He said "Why can't I do this myself?"
I told him no, there were no "tricks." If he knew how to write marketing copy, there was certainly no reason why he couldn't write his own letters. BUT... since he hadn't done it yet, chances were that he wouldn't get it done.
Two kinds of agents need a copywriter:
First are the agents who don't want to write, don't like to write, or "can't write." They're fantastic at talking to people in person, but don't do such a good job when it comes to writing.
Second are the agents who could easily do it themselves, but just don't get it done.
Will today's caller get back in touch? Or will he decide that writing a drip marketing campaign is a do-it-yourself project that he really will get done? And if he makes that decision, will he do it?
Time will tell...
All I can say is that it is important to follow up and stay in touch with those website leads. A good drip marketing system that builds an atmosphere of trust can be the deciding factor when that potential buyer is ready to get serious.
So whether you do it yourself, call on me, or choose another copywriter - it needs to get done.
