Who Needs a Real Estate Copywriter?

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Marte Cliff Copywriting

Today I had a conversation with a gentleman who wanted a drip marketing campaign.

We discussed who would be getting the letters, how long each message should be, and what he wanted to convey to people. Then he asked me "Do you have some kind of special tricks you use in your letters?"

When I asked what he meant, he explained that he was highly educated and could write very well. He wanted to know if there was something special I could do that he could not.drip marketing

He said "Why can't I do this myself?"

I told him no, there were no "tricks." If he knew how to write marketing copy, there was certainly no reason why he couldn't write his own letters. BUT... since he hadn't done it yet, chances were that he wouldn't get it done.

Two kinds of agents need a copywriter:

First are the agents who don't want to write, don't like to write, or "can't write." They're fantastic at talking to people in person, but don't do such a good job when it comes to writing.

Second are the agents who could easily do it themselves, but just don't get it done.

Will today's caller get back in touch? Or will he decide that writing a drip marketing campaign is a do-it-yourself project that he really will get done? And if he makes that decision, will he do it?

Time will tell...

All I can say is that it is important to follow up and stay in touch with those website leads. A good drip marketing system that builds an atmosphere of trust can be the deciding factor when that potential buyer is ready to get serious.

So whether you do it yourself, call on me, or choose another copywriter - it needs to get done.

Good points. That is often my problem-I write well but am "too busy" to get it done.

You are so right.  I write fairly well but just don't have the time to complete a blog.

If you like to write fine, but you have to make that campaign part of your daily activities.  If the discipline is lacking, it won't happen.  Good post!

This is a good commentary on making the distinction between those who and and those who cannot.  Do those who can have the time or take the time to write.  Do those who just don't have the ability get resourseful and pay others to write?

Marte: I would love your take on listing descriptions one day.  I sat through a class that told us to use words that evoke sensations and emotions.  Touch, taste, sound, feel.   That type of thing.

Marte --- great post and a good commentary not only about those of us in real estate but in life as well.  Some can't, some don't, some won't and I guess some shouldn't.

Marte, I have just started to write on a daily basis and I love it.  If you find a way to systemize writing you should be succesful.

Michelle and Maureen - That's what holds many agents back. By the time you've done your other work for the day, you're ready for a rest, and writing your follow-up letters gets pushed to the background.

Laura - the beauty of autoresponders and drip marketing is that you can get it done once, and then leave it alone unless you need an update.

Barbara - Yes, they do. Most of my work is for real estate professionals. While a lot of what I write is for permanent web pages, I do write blog posts and prospecting letters as well. Not all can afford custom letters, so I have sets of pre-written letters that they can customize. That works well for agents on a tight budget - and those who can afford custom but would rather spend their dollars somewhere else.

Chris Ann - Your class was exactly right. Do what you can to "put your reader in the house" and appeal to their emotions. Studies over the years have proven that people buy with emotion and justify the purchase with logic. So paint those pictures that their minds' eyes can see. (And want!)

Michael - You're right. That applies to everything. Seems to me that Jim Rohn talks about that in one of his audios, when he's telling us to just accept people as they are and don't try to change them. "Some will, some won't, some do, some don't."

Marte,

But even when agents can write, it is not necessarily results in good copy. It is different from writing a blog. It is still a little bit more than just being able to write. It is being able to write consitently well.

Excellent blog
