WHY ARE YOU SHOUTING AT ME? Mistakes in your MLS Listings

As many of you, I look at tons of listings on a daily basis and there are a few that really make me want to hunt down that realtor and shake them.

  • DON'T SHOUT AT ME:  Typing in all caps is the online equivalent of yelling.  Use your inside voice.  It isn't that tough to hit the shift key for the start of a sentence.
  • Waterfront View:  If I have to lean over a fence and look between 2 trees to see a snippet of water, that is not waterfront view.  A retention pond is also not Waterfront even though it is water.
  • Spell Check:  It is free.  Use it please.
  • Instructions to realtors within the public remarks:  I saw one the other day that well, let's just say, I thought about contacting the seller so that they could smack their realtor for it.

I am sure there are more, but those are the ones that really get me annoyed every time I see them.

Chris, What about a Rainmaker on AR with no picture?  LOL!  I'm just sayin'...

I know, I am horrible.  When I joined, I realized that I didn't have any photos of me that were 600 x 600 like Active Rain likes.  I am getting a new pic this week.  I promise.

Ironically, I posted a comment on a blog about using pictures on business cards and I shouted myself out about the irony that I don't have one on my profile.

Chris, thanks for the post. The all caps is the most annoying, really now, why is it necessary??

If you email your picture to AR they might be able to resize it and get it up for you, that is what they did with me.

I agree with Melissa, the all caps is hard to read and does feel like shouting.

The public and private descriptions on an MLS listing are ideal places to promote the property for sale in a positive fashion.  Manydescriptions I read miss out on the opportunity presented.  When I create online flyers for my Realtor clients I try to write titles and descriptions that inform and entice prospective buyers.  It's not easy.

Amen Chris.  It's not difficult to spend a little time and effort in writing a good description that entices buyers to look further.
