Modular Homes and Green Build Are Hand in Hand.Building Green in Ct

Fine Custom Modular Homes is not an oxymoron. Modular homes are homes that are built in a controlled environment with organization, efficiency, and yes custom to your individual needs. This is not a new concept, Sears-Roebuck & Company were selling pre-cut and fitted material homes back in the early 1900’s.  These homes required less construction time, included the latest technology of the times, lowered manufacturing and material costs; and the same holds true for today’s Custom Modular Homes.

Epoch Homes located in New Hampshire is one such company that produces Custom Modular Homes throughout New England. With a network of qualified local contractors (one local affiliated builder is SoundHomesCt, New Canaan, Ct.) to coordinate the foundation, siding, roofing, flooring and other finished detailed items once the house is built. They have been in business since 1983 and have built a wide range of homes from standard to ultimate high end custom homes. Size can range from small up to their largest to date a home in Greenwich, Ct at 16,000 sq ft. They can supply you with hundreds of designs that you can change for your own personal preference or bring in your own custom plans.

There 65,000 sq. ft. facility was building green before it even became common use, with state of the art technology and materials used in a sustainable way. Some of the Green Build options available are:

  • Spray icynene foam insulation.
  • Low VOC paints and glue.
  • Low E high performance windows (Pella stocked).
  • Local framing wood and engineered lumber products.
  • Lower construction waste.
  • Controlled factory environment.

David, I have been a fan of this mode of construction since the mid-1980's.  Though still the minority, I think it is a cost-effective and quality construction method.

I've never associated modular with green before - but this company sure does it right!  Nice post.
