JANUARY 29, 2011
MY DEAREST FIRST BORN
I saw you first in September 1988, the doc said, "it's a boy"
The joy you brought me that day, are words I can still feel today
Only having you and my best friend in Germany seems like a perfect life at no end
Every year your birthday is near I thought of what joy I should create,
A day that is "Special" - just for you and to wonder what lies ahead...
Then, you started off for school being a leader and a true friend to all
It seems to me like yesterday when you you excelled in Little League, NJB and Football
But it's not yesterday anymore... and I know how great you still are
That special cap, jammies, and jersey are still known in my mind
And that laugh that flows in the room bring tears to my eyes.
Then, you became a teen and track, football, baseball, and basketball was there all the time....
It's okay that we spent many dollars because the joy on your face
The trophies in your room remind me that it was all worth the memories all the while...
As other dads would say, "I want a son JUST like that"
When you came home, from out with friends or on a date
You would whisper "mom, are you still awake?"
After our talks through the nights... that I so enjoyed to have...
But after I would often say my prayer to God,
"Dear Lord and Jesus, Bless my son, guide him daily as I know he is extra special and a prize to us all".
I know you have made mistakes that no mother would want to go through with her son,
But I have to believe you were lost, but now found...
And I will not turn my head and believe, "Oh NO not here" as I know now, it could happen to anyone
So, dear son, it's now for you to find your path in life as we know in our hearts you can
Still that boy we raised to be a leader and a true and kind friend!
This time, let's make it the friends that make you shine and bring the good in your life~
Because with your tenacity and strength you can be anyone you want to be
LOVE, MOM

OUR CHILDREN SHOULD NEVER BE LEFT TO FIGURE LIFE OUT BY THEMSELVES. WE NEED TO HUG THEM, TELL THEM WE LOVE THEM AND HAVE THEM ALWAYS KNOW WE ARE ALWAYS THERE. AFTER ALL, WHY DID WE BRING THEM INTO THIS WORLD! WHAT'S MINE IS THERE'S! AND I WOULDN'T HAVE IT ANY OTHER WAY. THEY SHOULD LEARN... THOUGH... EDUCATION IS KEY!

11 Comments on Words to MY SON~ 22years old and trying to figure life OUT
The love you've expressed is so beautiful. I hope things turn out well for the two of you.
Lovely post, Lauren. 22 is still a tough age. I agree with you, hug them, love them, and let them know you are always there for them.
Beautiful post to your son. . .nice to see you recognize your significant role on his life and he is lucky to have you as a mom
this is simply beautiful. Brings tears to my eyes it's so beautiful.
Lauren, education is a key but love is the key. It sounds like you have abundantly supplied your son with the love he needs to find his way.
Lauren, Really beautiful words to your son! I hope he knows how much he is loved!
Very nice Lauren. He's a lucky boy to have you for his Mom. Happy Birthday!
Lauren, that is very sweet to write about your son...I'm sure he is a good kid.. (Kid... I am only 4 years older then him, does that make me a kid to??) But He probably loves you very much.
Maya~ thank you so much... and for commenting. I appreciate it...
Virginia~ Yes, Yes, and Yes. Shocks me to hear that some parents don't tell their kids they love them. Shocks me!
So true Bob "RealMan"~ Love is key to all relationships! ;) and I have, but a lil' reminder helps. Every single time we talk, he tells me he loves me. I always since he was little told him I loved him and how special he was...
Thank you Fernando~ Yes, he is... He quite often says, "Mom, I honestly don't know what I would do without you".
Debbie....awwww thanks sweetie.... I felt it tug my heart when I was writing it and again when typing it before I mailed it off to him...
Karin, thanks~ I think he forgets sometimes, but I wrote this out behind a letter I wrote him and I think he will love it....
Thank you so much Gabe! His friends always say, "I wish you were my mom". I'm flattered ;)
Stacey, He is trying... Well, I think after 25 the boys start to get it.... Age doesn't matter, but he is (my kid always~) going to get it... I started real estate at his age, but I figured life out long time ago... DANG YOU ARE YOUNG!And he does love me, that I have never doubted, it's the rest of his demons he fights :/
My son called me yesterday to tell me that he received my "words". He continued to tell me, "Thanks mom, I cried myself to sleep". I'm taking that as, HE WAS TOUCHED.... What do you all think?
