Technology Pet Peeves

I am considered one of the go to people in my office when it comes to technology.... before I give you the wrong impression this is the equivalent of being the skinniest kid at fat camp.  I have however, come up with a few technology no-nos and advancements that just flat out bug me. I do not mean to offend those of you that cross these lines or participate in these activities,I just want you to know that you should STOP!

  1. Empty your phone inbox! --I have owned a cell phone since 1997 and have never exceeded my inbox limit.  I'm not even sure how many messages that would be. Are they all that important?
  2. Don't post food pictures on FB!-- We are all thrilled that you got a night out for a good meal at a nice restaurant. The only thing more irritating than seeing your meal before you eat it is sitting next to you at the restaurant while you pose the dish and flash the picture.
  3. Update your website! -- The Wall Street Journal article explaining the benefits of the NEW First time home buyer tax credit doesn't keep them there any more.
  4. Stop hording apps! -Do you know they have an app that organizes your apps?!! I'm not kidding! of the 40+ apps on your phone, how many do you actually use?  This is a sickness people and it only encourages companies to come up with more useless apps.
  5. The FourSuare Phenomonon -- Who invented this concept, The National Association of Home Burglars? Every post should include a map to your spare key and the shut off code for your alarm system.
  6. Bluetooth etiquette-- This was invented as a means of safe driving, not a way to show the line at Starbucks how important you are because you can't even take the time to buy a cup of coffee without putting down your phone.  Jackass! (sorry folks that one really bugs me!)

Well as you can see my blood pressure is up and I need to go count to ten before inevitably encountering one of these episodes as I go about my day.  I encourage you to add to the list via comments.  This after all is a public service.

I use four square and my wife worries that people will know we are gone and come and rob our home.  I understand the concern but I normally check in as I am leaving, and only 5 minutes from home.

Udating is key, nothing worse than "stale info"

Walking through the mall talking to yourself on a blue tooth is just annoying and rude.

and a full mailbox (e or voicemail) just says you are unorganized and do not pay attention to your business, great way to grow NOT!

Sorry the staff at your office is frustrating you!!  I have a lot of people tap on me too!

Websites, Blogs and Social Media..have to be updated or they lose all their potential to help the business move forward!!

And Voicemail best be clean or all our clients, prospects or peers will think we fell off the earth!

Mike, I love your description of The FourSquare concept as invented by the National Association of Home Burglars.  How True!!!  i wonder how many homes have been robbed because of FourSquare, Twitter, Facebook, TripIt, etc.?
