Is There a Reason For a Bad Attitude?

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker Heritage Homes PB00007070

What a question, is there a reason for a Bad Attitude?  There are so many things that happen that can change your attitude but how we handle it will determine our Altitude.  Have you ever thought about the definition of attitude?  In the simplest way I know to put it attitude is defined as a state of mind or how you feel or your disposition.  The answer to the question is No there is no benefit to a Bad Attitude.  So why have one?

Well, guess what happened at 7:10 AM on Saturday Morning?  First, I have to tell you I'm at the Lake with my wife and dogs Kris Kringle and St Nick.  The Phone Rings.  Could that Change your Attitude?  Yes, I know I should have had it turned off!  Then my wife gets really upset with me because I did not have my phone turned off.  I had to decide right then what my attitudewas going to be for the rest of the day.  I promise I've made the right decision.  Yesterday, it was the attorney that got involved in one of my deals one hour before closing and it blows up.  I spend the rest of the day trying to put that deal back together. Oh, by the way it was the attorney calling this morning!  I think you understand where this is going we have a Choiceeveryday to make so make sure you make the right choice. Remember, I can't think of one positive things that comes from a bad Attitude if you can let me know.  I think there are 4 keys to a good attitude and I'm sure someone can share a few additional but here are my four.

First. you've got to make the most of every situation.  Remember what our Grandparents always told us if you've got Lemons make Lemonade.  It's the same everyday you make a choice about the out come of your day.  I could have let the phone ringing or my wife being upset with me have a negative effect on my attitude.  However, I decide to write this blog and remind myself it's up to me.  Life challenges will away bring out both the Best and Worst in each of us.  Try to make it the Best.

Second, disciplineyour mind to respond in a positive. Our mind is the most powerful part of our body and in most cases the most undisciplined part.  Simply put how will think will determine our Attitude.  If you get up thinking it's going to be a bad day, guess what it will be BAD.  I once heard Walter Bond say,"Control your mind, control your mouth and control your life".  You always think before you speak not matter what came out you did think about it!

Third, Consider Othersbefore yourself.  Don't be consumed with yourself but think about others and what you can do for them.  Take a moment and think about the happiest people you know.  I bet they come to mind because they all have one comment element in their life.  They love helping others. Then think about the people or co-workers who are Self -Involved.  These people will wear you out so get alway from them before they change your Additude.

Fourth, You need to have Short Term Memory. Don't ever let what happened yesterday determine your additude for today.  Don't even let what happened at 7:10 AM this morning effect the rest of the day.  It's not worth it.  Life is short.  Take it all in and enjoy everything around you.  Remember every night to empty your mindof all the negative thoughts you had all the bad things you said throughout the day and start each day new and with a smile.  Oh, remember it's ok to say I'm Sorry to someone you said something harsh to yesterday.  It will make you feel really Great and your Friend even Better.

Well I hope this helps you because it has me and I'm ready to ride my New Additude to the Highest Altidude possible today.  The Sky is the limit!

Michael  I have bitten my tongue so much over 34 years in real estate I only have a wee bit left.  All I have left is a positive attitude

Mike, no kidding about the short term memory.  I do have short term memory, sometimes on the wrong things though, ;)  If we can't think positive, it will be very hard to stay in real estate for sure.

Hi Michael --- good post!  It's too easy to have a good attitude and it definitely will affect your altitude.   Point 4 regarding short term memory loss is a classic and certainly one I am going to remember(haha)!

Michael - It is so true that we can make or break our day with our attitudes.  Heck, so much of what we do is all about our attitudes.  Have a great week Michael.  :)

Good Post Mike.  As I was reflecting on things in my own life, I was reminded to be positive and remember to start my day by having a moment of prayer and meditation with God.  This is my way of getting my positive mode on to face the many things that come my way on a daily basis.
