Corpus Christi is recovering from the recession at a faster pace than the rest of Texas as seen by four months of job growth and sales inching us back to pre-recession levels according to Sara Foley of the Corpus Chirsti Caller Times. Local economist, Jim Lee of Texas A& M Corpus Christi, states that while our economy is still down it appears to have bottomed out. It is also important to note that effects of the recession were not fully felt in Corpus Christi until May 2009, much later than most of the U.S. In a recent report from the Economic Development office, a recent spike in permits signals a shift in local businesses making the move from consolidation and regrouping to business growth. Even though number of home sales dropped in 2010 compared to 2009, property values held steady.
