My new website, over the summer I tossed it up on the web with out thinking of site architecture and SEO - as a new agent I wanted something fast. My ego told me do it and fix it later -- well, six months after putting it up I hadn't done squat!
In mid-December I started working on my "red headed step child" website. I started going through the pages systematically and begin working on my long overdue onsite optimization and at the same time work on my offsite optimization too.
Here is an example of how focusing on your keywords and working them pays off.
For this term I was not ranked in the top 50 search results with any search directory or search engine when I started. Keyword search = "sun city macdonald ranch homes for sale" and below is my latest report which was sent to me on this past Thursday. As you can see, I am #4 with Google, #6 with Bing and #6 with Yahoo! (these are the only ones I am tracking). You can see my traffic picked up nicely. :-) It's not a lot but hey, it's more than I had a month ago.
Even though I built my site using StudioPress Genesis as my framework, I still use 2 of my favorite plugins for SEO, 1) SEOPressor and 2) Wordpress SEO. I really love SEOPressor because it keeps me in check with my onsite optimization.
The plugin will grade me on my keyword density and give me an overall score. While a 71% is okay - I really need to get it higher with better content and more internal linking. The plugin will rate me on the following:
- proper use of H level tags
- ALT TEXT usage
- internal linking
- keyword density
- keyword placement on the page
- word count
- and more!
I use Wordpress SEO because it's also one of those plugins that keep me check too with what my link will look like on search engines.
You can see below the "snippet preview" that I have created and below it you can see what my return actually looks like now until my page is reindexed.
This is one of the pages that was neglected in the beginning that is now getting a little love from Mom. I have to admit, even though I am the 4th on the page, I wouldn't click mine because of the snippet of content that is there for consumers to read. (Please update this soon Google - LOL)
Bottom line: with a few minutes working on your pages that you want to rank well and a little extra effort for offsite SEO, you can rank on page 1 in no time. Took me about 4 weeks to get to #4 / #6 / #6 and climbing!
