Pros We Don't Think About: The Locksmith
One of my goals for 2011 is to create a master vendor list of professionals whom I will recommend to customers and clients.
Jason has an excellent point of bringing on a locksmith as one of those vendors.
Throughout the year I would like to offer specials to my clients. One trade-off idea might be to provide one "get out of jail free" card to your clients... A complimentary locksmith call. They might use it when they lock their keys in the car or when they change locks on the house.
Maybe I could cut a deal with the locksmith to pay a discounted rate for such a service and provide to my clients for FREE.

If you are like me (and like most people), we do not find out the names and numbers of qualified specialists until we are in desperate need of one.
A really good specialist that should make it to your list of pros (before something bad happens) should be a locksmith. Have you ever locked yourself out of your home, car or office? I have (only my car, and I don't have OnStar). And it goes beyond keys left in a locked car... if you lose your keys, you should change the locks on your house.
Many locksmiths work from their home or have a mobile business, so they have no physical address to speak of. That's no big deal, the individual may be every bit as skilled or qualified as a locksmith who has his/her own storefront business.
Ask for an estimate for the work to be done and/or for replacement parts before the work actually gets underway. A legitimate professional will have no trouble doing that for you, and may even be able to provide you with an estimate over the phone when you explain what work needs to be done and/or what problem you have encountered with a lock.
Sooner or later, most of us find ourselves in need of a good locksmith. It helps to do the research now, rather than trust on the Yellow Pages in time of crisis.
