Kansas City, MO - Add fast-talking auctioneers to the funnel cakes and Ferris Wheels enjoyed by fair goers at this year's Kansas State Fair. Kansas City Auctioneer Robert Mayo was honored at this year's fair as the 2007 Kansas State Champion Auctioneer.  Robert competed against his fellow auctioneers on September 12th for the coveted title.

Contestants were judged on their bid calling skills, including rhythm, voice quality, and clarity. Competitors were also judged on their responses during an interview round. As Kansas' Champion Auctioneer, Robert will compete next year in the International Auctioneers Championship (IAC) in Nashville. The IAC winners in the male and female division are considered by the industry to be the world's best auctioneers.

The Kansas City based auctioneer co-owns Mayo Auction & Realty and specializes in real estate auctions.  Robert resides in Belton, MO with his wife, Aileen, and their son, Lincoln.

Congratulations!  Where was your hat?  Best of luck in Nashville.

Chris - They called me the city boy. If you ever see me wearing a cowboy hat, it is a fraud. No offense to the fine gentleman who wear one, but it doesn't work for me.

Robert - Yooooo hoooooo to yooooooou from texas!  Congratulations - guess I haven't heard you bid call before. This is wonderful news.

PS - I very much like the 'no hat' look, the cowboy hats in my opinion only add to the old stereotypes of auctioneers (of course, there are some parts of the country that hats are the norm regardless of one's profession) but man, I'm all about bringing the business into the 23rd century!

I think that we should all be photographed with our briefcases.

Funny the first thing I thought when I looked at the picture was "3 of them are missing their hats" and then I read the comments.  I'm getting ready to leave for auctioneer school and everybody keeps telling me I need to get a hat.  Don't think its going to happen.

CON-GRAT-U-LATE-SHUNS ROB!

It looks like you were up against a team of good auctioneers and somehow prevailed.

I think that all auctioneers keep a cowboy hat in the closet along with a couple of tuxedo's just in case they are needed as props.

Kansas is really shaping up into a strong marketplace for professional auctioneers.

Sincerely,

 Billy Burke
