I totally agree...if I come to a site that requires registration, I'm outta there.  People want the information when they want it...I think it's only a lead generator (if you can get people to do it) as Steve says here.

I too am a believer that registration isn't the best way to make good things happen.  I will soon be offering an optional sign up (opt-in) to generate leads, though.

I believe that on your company website the information should be given freely with the option to request more.

But I also believe in creating stealth websites for no other reason as to just to generate leads, something to keep myself busy during the slow times - lol

After reading other blog posts here on AR a few months ago, I removed the "registration" from my personal site, and my hits went up sharply.   This could be a coincidence....but I did remove it.

I have registration but I don't think it hurts leads-folks who don't want to divulge their info put in fake stuff, and that's fine, they still get whatever they wanted.  If they put in a real email or phone, though, they're raising their hands for assistance.

Steve's a mega-producer, so it's hard to argue: log-in sites are not effective. Ditch the log-in, and get more traffic. I'm a firm believer and I've  always adovacted the same.
