Getting that "needs Updating" Feedback? Here's one Cheap Easy Fix

By
Real Estate Agent with Raleigh Cary Realty

TAKE the VALANCES down!

Huh? That easy? Believe it or not, valances, or the wrong type of window treatments can make a home seem dated.

Yes, I know that your decorator custom made these and it cost a lot of money.

Yes, I know that they match the throw pillows on the sofa.

Yes, I know that they're not going with the house anyway, so buyers should be able to see past them.

But guess what.  Buyer's won't see past it!

Before with valancesc

Want proof? This beautiful home that I had listed last year was built in 2002, had all the bells and whistles, etc.  But we kept getting feedback about it being "outdated".

After without valances

I suggested to the seller that they take the valances down, showing off the windows and great moldings.

No more "Needs Updating' feedback, and  3 offers within the next 2 weeks!

Just like fashion for your body that go out of style, furniture and wndow treatments are fashion for your home.  You wouldn't be putting on those old Nehru suits and bell bottoms now to go out to dinner would you?

Linda, that did make quite a difference! Sometimes less is more. Great idea.

Linda - You have provided a perfect example of how LESS can be MORE!  The old valance isn't likely to go with anything a buyer would bring into the home anyway!

Hi Linda, it really is amazing how something relatively small can make a big difference!  Are you saying that Nehru jackets and bell bottoms are out of style though? I'm shocked. :-)

TOTALLY agree....valances are sooooo 1980 and really "cut" a window and block light.  TAKE them DOWN is right!!!!
