Yesterday I got to see my daughter and her boyfriend on a day off from college and we decided to hit the movies since it was such a freezing cold day. We saw the new movie "The Mechanic" with Jason Statham and Ben Foster. Both of them were outstanding. This is a remake of the 1970's movie with Charles Bronson. First let me say I loooooooove Jason Statham and have seen all of his movies and this one did not disappoint. I also have seen most, if not all of Charles Bronson's movies and this fit right in.
This is definitely not a movie for children and maybe even teenagers. All depends on the parents. For those that are a little wishy washy on blood and violence this is not for you either. Even with all that I still thought it was fabulous. I am definitely not one for blood and guts but I liked it quite a bit.
For those who don't know, a Mechanic is an assassin, which is played by Statham who is supposed to be the best of the best. When certain problems arise he changes how he does things which has always been alone in the past and this leads to one problem after another. As the movie progresses it gets better and better but more and more violent. Again I still thought it was well worthwhile. It has an unexpected surprise ending that had us all gasping. Go see it! The men will love it!
Hi Debra - Sounds like the perfect Sunday afternoon. I hope your daugther and her boyfriend had a great time too. :)
Patty-Yes we all did. She doesn't get to come home very often so it was a nice treat for all of us. :-)
I think I’ve seen the best of Charles Bronson, but they are not movies that I would watch a second time. Too violent for me. I’m not inclined to see The Mechanic remake, but I think my other half has already put it on his Blockbuster queue. He’s a blood and guts fan.
Jim-It doesn't follow the exact story line, it is more modern etc...but if you are a Statham fan you won't want to miss it. If you do watch it you will have to tell me how you liked it.
Debra, my husband and I will probably go and see this movie, although I don't blood and guts...
I'm not a fan of movie violence, but the trailer does look good...I'm sure the hubby will want to see it and will probably wait to rent it so I will most likely watch it with him. At home, I can walk away if I don't like it.
Debra: Glad you got to have some time off to enjoy a movie with your daughter.....This one looks good! Thanks for the review!
Hi Debra, I can't do blood & guts -- I hide! LOL My husband will usually tell me when it's safe to look again, so I enjoy most movies like this - just not all of it. I think I was braver in the Charles Bronson days than I am now! HA! I'm glad you got to spend the day with your daughter, that just the best.
Debra, well now that you said the men will love it I'll have to see the remake...the trailer looked good. I got caught up in the Bronson clip...really liked that movie.
Thanks for the review, Debra! I never would have thought of watching this movie. I'll put it on my Netflix queu.
Cheers,
Robin
Rebecca-It is not too awful-although I had to look away a few times. :-)
Sharon-Action action action! It really was good. Typical for Jason.
Jane-You will have to let me know if you go see it.
Mary-Thanks Mary. I am the same way!
Nick-I did too. You will enjoy the remake. Just as good if not better. Leaning toward better....
Robin-Have you seen the Transporter movies? If not add them too!
