Back when we could actually get away...

By
Real Estate Agent with Associate Broker, Momentum Realty

Once upon a time, we used to leave the office and leave our work behind.Yes, there were occasional late-night phone calls, and the occasional assignment that required a beeper, but for the most part, we were either at home, or at work.

If you haven't already seen this clip from The Today Show, it is worth watching. In 1994, there was still wide-spread confusion about the internet. Fast forward 17 years, and we cannot go to the grocery store without our email--and everyone we know--coming along on our Smartphones. Only yesterday, I took my son skiing and we were very frustrated that we could not log into weatherbug from my Blackberry to check the status of the upcoming storm. Really??!! I couldn't let that go to enjoy a day of skiing? Thankfully, I was forced to disconnect and the world remained intact-- and the storm came anyway!

Enjoy this clip from The Today Show in 1994...and try not to get too distracted by the hairstyles!

OMG that is hysterical. Thanks for sharing a great clip and look back into the past. We've come a long way....even if we are a little too connected these days we at least have a choice.

It is funny to thik about how much the times have changed.  I think that it is so peaceful to not have my phone with me.  I think that it takes away from the time and attention that I give to my children.  I am working on it.  It is a struggle to disconnect.

Hello Holly:

And the question becomes, "do you think we are better off for it"?  We all have adopted the need to be connected, but I wonder at what cost.  Glad you and your son could spend a day connected in a different sort of way.

Holly: I go to the gym everyday for about an hour or two and make it a point not to carry my phone while exercising. I don't have an ipod and I don't take headphones to watch the TVs. It's like a vaction. I love it.
