Social media is not an excuse to avoid making calls!

Have you ever noticed how agents (particularly new ones) love to talk about how they are going to CRUSH it with social media? Don't get me wrong, I do a TON of business with and through social media, but guess what, THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR VOICE TO VOICE INTERACTION!

Old school voice to voice chat's are very important. In everything from prospecting to simply toughing base with clients, calls are crucial.

Now, as a part of your overall lead generation, and especially your client relationship management program, you MUST include facebook, activerain, and other social media.

What is your best social media and/or voice to voice success story?

Hi Michael,

I agree, we must not forget to call and also send personal notes. I won an IPAD using Twitter, that was pretty cool.  It was through a Real Estate conference.  Cindy

Congrats on the IPAD Cindy! How are you using it? (Business, personal?)

And you are correct, personal notes are HUGE!

I have always wanted to build confidence with my phone presence... but not quite sure exactly HOW to feel comfortable making the dreaded "cold call" - any tips?

Heather, Thanks for the post.. I recommend calling people who know and like you first. In other words, I would make my first 5 calls/day to past/current clients/people in your sphere of influence who will be glad you called, and then begin calling your other contacts/expireds etc...

Another great tip is to follow a script you have memorized...

I have been reading a lot of blogs recently on social networking and face to face but as you point out just as important is ear to ear. I have a telemarketing background but in this ever growing Social media frenzy have found myself drifting from the phone. Your blog reminds me to add that back into my mix.

For people who don't like making cold calls (like myself), maybe try using a service like www.slydial.com(I have no affiliation with them).  It's free, and it goes directly to their voice mail.  I've used it before with some success.  When the customer has already heard you leave a message, then you're not still a stranger out of the blue the next time you call them to actually talk.  It takes some of the pressure off the call, and confidence breeds success.  Let me know if you try it and how it works for you!

Eric, you're right, it is very easy to slowly drift away from the habits that brought us to the success we enjoy... Maintaining the daily habit of reaching out to clients (past, present, and potential) is vital to our ongoing success!

I love the 300lb phone analogy! And you're right, the first call is always the toughest!
