When looking at Arizona real estate trends for 2nd home buyers, Ahwatukee Foothills is the place to start. Ahwatukee is one of the safest and most well maintained communities in the Phoenix Metro Area. It is located on the south side of South Mountain preserve in area codes 85048, 85044, 85045. It is only 20 minutes from the Phoenix International Airport, Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, Chandler Fashion Square, Arizona State University, Tempe Diablo Stadium - a favorite spring training facility, and Chandler Regional Hospital. Within 40 minutes you can be at the HoHoKam Stadium - home of the Chicago Cubs spring training, the Diamondback's Baseball Stadium, and US Airways Center - home of the Phoenix Suns basketball team. It is not too far from the University of Phoenix Stadium - home of the Phoenix Cardinal's or the Coyotes NHL Stadium.

There are a number of public and semi-private golf courses throughout the community. Club West, an 18-hole Brian Whitcomb/Ken Kavanaugh design, ranges in yards from 4,985 yards in length to as much as 7,142 yards from the back tees. The double green down hill 17th hole has dramatic views with a tee to green elevation change of over 100 feet. Don't plan on walking! Enjoy a meal at the elegant 19th hole with outdoor seating next to the lake.

Do not over look the Ahwatukee Country Club, designed by John Boulla. The Ahwatukee Golf course opened in 1973. It is the home of the Ahwatukee Country Club Academy of Golf utilizing state-of-the-art teaching technology to enhance both the understanding of the swing and enjoyment of golf by all students.

And finally, the 18-hole "Lakes" executive course - The Lakes at Ahwatukee Golf course facility features 4,019 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 60. The course rating is 62.6 and it has a slope rating of 99. Designed by Gary Panks, ASGCA, the Ahwatukee Lakes Golf course lined with towering Eucalyptus trees and a number of small lakes opened to the public in 1977.

Ahwatukee is a true mecca for golfers: Within minutes, you can golf at Phantom Horse, The Raven, The Legacy, Whirlwind or Cattail, Ken McDonald, The Duke at El Dorado Ranch, ASU Karsten golf courses to name just a few of the incredible golfing experiences in Phoenix metro-plex. Besides golf, the neighborhoods and communities within Ahwatukee are wonderful places for raising a family or finding the good life in the retirement years. It is a common site to see joggers & cyclists, people walking their dogs or taking their kids out for a stroll, and many take advantage of the hiking & mountain biking trails in the South Mountain Preserve.
