Real Estate Team Building-Interesting Lessons Learned 2010

By
Real Estate Agent with National Realty Centers Livonia--Bob Jakowinicz

Well 2010 was the year we decided to put a real estate team together.  The lessons learned from the year were priceless!  Were there plenty of mistakes made?  You bet!!  Over all a very good year and I would say the most growth mentally I have experienced in many years.  Here are just a few things we went through and thought some others would either laugh with us or have some great input on some of their own experiences.  To see more about our team visit our website at WWW.REALESTATEBUSYBEES.COM

So here we are one year ago ready to take on all challenges.  This picture was just a throw together last minute thing as we were walking out of the office, lol.  If you are into personality profiling we have two D, I's on the team and two S, C's on the team.  We are experienced with a few years under our belts, a little stuck in our ways but worked out very well during the entire time together.  For the most part our run together lasted about a year until we disbanded.  We never had a fight or anything negative and to this day get along absolutely great.  Here is a brief summary of our journy.

PUTTING THE TEAM TOGETHER

  • We have enough activity to keep a team busy and its time to prepare for the market to improve
  • All expectations are met and agreed upon--Boy we are busy and getting a little desperate for help
  • Through months of speaking, interviewing, signing agreements we are a great fit
  • Working together was a breeze and activity picked up very nicely
  • Strong support of one another and everyone's life improved with more off time and more closings

DISBANDING THE TEAM

  • Independence of seasoned people not wanting to take time to get together
  • Agents become to busy to ever make a team meeting--In original agreement to do two a month
  • Some team members become busier than they have ever been and not used to handling it
  • Prospecting stops from all but Team Leader and everyone now waiting for leads to keep flooding in
  • Problems arise and team not informed as seasoned agents know how to handle on their own (not good)

Overall Iwould put together a team again and will in the near future.  What I learned was I covered everything in writing but not in PERSONALITYas much as I should have.  A 20 year agent may not be as likely to conform to a team as a newer agent who is looking to learn and grow, I'm sure there is some long time agents who would but hard to not get stuck in our ways over time.  A team offered me more than I ever had on my own in so many ways I can't say how grateful I am for the team last year.  We covered for each-other beautifully on many occasions and everyone was happy and received great service.  What I did not cover properly was our natural tendencies of our personality.  Any personality can be a great real estate agent no question about that.  It can be really tough for a high I type to sit and do paperwork all day, yes they can do it but don't really enjoy it (for example).

Thank You for stopping by let us know what you think about real estate and teams.
