Check Your Windows for Heavy Moisture - Cold Weather

During our freezing temperatures in the Houston area for the next few days (or anytime for that matter), check your windows for heavy moisture.

Even newer homes may form ice crystals on the interior of the window at the lower edge of the window as well as up the sides (especially metal or aluminum window frames).  Then when it melts it will leave a water puddle which could either run off onto the floor or it could stand until it evaporates, which isn't good for the wood window sill, especially over time with repeated instances.

It's something you may not notice unless you make a point to check, because it is probably behind drapes or blinds.  It would be worth mentioning to others, as well.

Great information Joyce.  In Denver our high was negative 4 yesterday.  We are at 7 above zero right now so it is a virtual heat wave.

Hi Ralph, I never would have thought of that except I was at someone's home today (newer home - built in 2005) when we noticed a layer of ice crystals on her window sill and big huge water drops across the bottom ledge of the window!  In checking other windows, they were all like that.

Hi Belinda,  Hope you didn't have to go out and hope you and Rocky were just able to stay inside and enjoy a warm fire.  I'm ready for spring!

Joyce, there sure has been a lot of that kind of thing going on this winter. This sure is highly important info to get out to folks. We ended up getting 20" of new snow fall here at the house today so far.

Have a good one

Dale, Wow - 20" - they would have to close down Houston if we got half that much!

Do you know what people can do about the heavy moisture other than dry it up with a towel.  Is there any way to prevent it?

Howdy and evening to you Joyce

Joyce,
I sure would much rather to be getting that snow again right now than the freezing rain that we have getting for pass 5 hours. I'm a bit worried about the roofs of folks that have not removed the snow off there roofs from the last couple of snowstorms. Now having this freezing rain falling on them, some sure could end up having a real problem.

I'll do a blog post that has to do with your question about what folks can do with window heavy moisture. I just got done a bit go, posting a blog post answering an e-mail question from some folks wanting help with hiring a water well drilling company. I've got to do a couple of other blog posts first, like the one for the snowmobile radar run that I went to this morning and did a video of.

Have a good one

Joyce, great information Joyce.     We are now getting snow storms every other day.    I guess Mother Nature said we were WAY behind in the snowfall records, which we were --- only 12" fell before January 1st!
