So, this past week has been great for my real estate career. Many agents have provided me with thoughtful remarks. However, I hit a speed bump on Tuesday. I had to have my appendix removed unexpectedly.

Its not just that though; this was supposed to be my first month of finally coming out on top financially. I was going to pay all of my bills and make some extra money. My listings were starting to get some leads and things were coming along. Mentally, I felt like I could take on the world and that I was going to do alright at this game called REAL ESTATE.

Now, as I lie here at home I ask myself... now what? My career doesn't provide insurance. I have been set back 2 months in terms of being able to pay bills, not including what it will take to pay the hospital off.

So how do you get through times like these; I know that there will be many more to come and I would like to here from the people who have experienced it, what you think.

Hope you feel better soon. Its tough these days. We sold 8 million last year and this year its been a struggle to make one closing a month... one low end deal that is. I just take things one day at a time. In this buisness you can go from famine to feast in a matter of a day. I know one of the best things we did was save 4 months of living expenses. If you get the chance to do that in the future I highly recommend it in this buisness. Feel better soon and keep plugging along. Medical bills will usually take a small portion of payment per month if that is all you can do.

The market is super slow here too. I'm lucky in a sense because I have multiple hobbies that pay a little here and there, internet stuff, and I also have a full time job that pays pretty good and has great benefits. That is a major downer when you have something like an appendix go out and there's nothing you did to instigate it...that is just unfair!!

Stay positive. Look at the down time as a way to catch up on missed posts on A/R or better yet- maybe call your past clients and sphere.  There is nothing that says you cant make phone calls from bed!  You can just call and say Hi and you may be shocked at how you might be able to pick up a buyer or two!

Just remember - STAY POSITIVE. I hope you feel better soon

Nick, I can only speak with what works for me.  I graduated in computer science and I still work in the IT field as a computer consultant for Microsoft.  Basically, I have 2 full time jobs.  A realtor and a computer consultant.  Having my 2nd job and my house paid in full has made my life a lot easier and lot less stressful. A number of agents disagree with having a 2nd job, but if it pays for your health benefits, it can save you a lot of money.

It would be great if the real estate market "healed" as fast as your surgical incision will heal.  The "cure" in real estate is diligence and continuity.  It will not help if you switch to every gimmick that comes down the road.  In mny respects real estate and politics are similar - it's local.
