Pretty huge/awesome/amazing at least to me

By

Warning this is a very geeky centric post, and was written way past my bedtime. This means that this post is not only not relevant, but also likely won't make any sense when I reread it tomorrow morning.

Google just launched a social bookmarking tool called Shared Stuff. Using Shared Stuff could not be simpler and just involves dragging the "email/share" button into your browsers bookmark toolbar.  From start to finish it took me like 5 seconds.

I already share my favorite (non AR) blog posts from my google reader (rss feed here, or view it as a blog here), but this new service takes it a step further and allows users to share most things that appears on a webpage.  This is big, at least to me.  But probably not to a lot of other people I guess.

Here is a link to my new shared items page: http://www.google.com/s2/sharing/stuff?user=113893706697174019418

Nothing really is on it yet, but expect good things to follow.

Jonathon... this is exactly why I use a tumblr account, the ease and simplicity. Same interface, a button you drag to your menu. The benefit, to me anyway, of tumblr is that I can brand it for me specifically. So, JustDugUp.com is my own little shared stuff page. :)

Isn't it amazing how Google keeps coming up with these cool tools but never does any promotion?  I have been using del.icio.us for the links on our website http://del.icio.us/tracyventuri but this looks like it will do more.  Thanks for the heads up.

Jeff,

Yeah tumblr is rad.  This has two extra benefits to tumblr. 1. I can subscribe to all of my friends shared stuff, and 2. I can easily search my shared stuff and my subscribed shared stuff.

Tego,

Google doesn't really need the promotion.  Everything kinda works together and if you use one product it leads to another.

Jonathon... I've tried to make this work on four different browsers now and can't make it work. Safari, Flock, Firefox and Camino. What are you using it with?

Jonathan... ok, you're going to find this humorous... I hope. It won't work if you try to share an ActiveRain post. I've now tested this on all of my browsers. I can share other sites, but when I try to share anything on AR, including this post, it won't let me. ??

:)

I tried to share this blog in every browser, including Opera as well, and none of them would work. The window freezes. But I was able to share other sites in each browser without issue. http://www.google.com/s2/sharing/stuff?user=112317150952376065749

Yup... I does not like AR. I was able to post everything else I tried including our Website and our Blogger Blog.  http://www.google.com/s2/sharing/stuff?user=102280677707322917227&aoff=true.

If anyone comes up with a solution for the problem with AR, let me know.

Tego

It does look like it will be fun...

It still has some bugs but appears to work on occasion.

Jonathan:

Thanks for the info.  I am a novice when it comes to RSS feeds. Maybe this will help me.

Tego... thanks. So, Jonathan, it's not just a Mac issue, so there must be something in the ActiveRain code that is interfering with being able to use the Google Share/Email feature.

Sorry for not following this comment thread!  I was sure this blog would die a slow comment death.

Jeff, It doesn't work with AR.  That sucks.  You know the iPhone also doesn't work with AR.  We will have to fix both of those items!  AR members thank you for you patience.

Lawrence, I am collecting the shared stuff in the link above.  But anyone can start collecting their own shared stuff.

Jonathon... it would be great if both were fixed! The iPhone is only partially true. You can't comment, since there is no html editor in the comments any longer. If there were, you could. Just as you can write a post using the iPhone (I did) as long as you are comfortable using the html editor only. :)
