DeWitt Hospital at Fort Belvoir
For 54 years Dewitt Hosptial at Fort Belvoir has done an amazing job of serving military families stationed at Fort Belvoir.  My daughter was born at Fort Belvoir in 1980 and over the years our family has accessed the facility for a variety of services.

As part of the Base Realignment and Closure Act (BRAC 05) DeWitt Hospital will take on a new an important missions for military families in the Northern Virginia area.  Located just inside Pence gate the site is just down the road from the current DeWitt Hospital but it is easy to see how this new facility will eclipse the old one.  The new Fort Belvoir Community hospital will not be a single building but a complex.  Featuring state of the art technology the new facility eliminates the need for hand carrying of medical records from one facility to another.  Expected to offer top of the line clinic services and more inpatient services the DeWitt Hospital will rival any top of the line private hospital. 

Another mission of the new Fort Belvoir Community hospital will be to be a major satellite teaching hospital for all military services.  With over 450,000 eligible users of the medical facilities in Northern Virginia, DC and Maryland the new hospital will be a major addition to the medical services currently offered at Bethesda Naval Hospital and former services at Walter Reed Hospital.

The new hospital is slated to open in mid-September 2011 and is just one of over $4 Billions dollars worth of projects throughout the DC Metro area in preparation of the move of close to 21,000 military and civilian personnel by September 2011.

It's good to see the improvements and consolidation of the medical services at Fort Belvoir. I'm a little saddened that they are closing Walter Reed AMC as it will make my drive longer to the new facility at Bethesda.

I am really excited about the new facility.  I had to make a trip to DeWitt ER a couple of years ago and I will tell you, I was absolutely blown away by the level of care I received there.  Those folks deserve a top notch facility!

Yikes that is huge Cindy, I can imagine the type of care people will get at Fort Belvoir Community hospital will be exceptional. I have noticed that availability and access to good health care is becoming a factor in where people choose to live.
