The Multiple Listing Service or MLS is a marketing tool. Why then, do soooo many real estate professionals use it as only a step in the process when listing a home?
What my point is, too many agents just throw something on the MLS sheet, probably because they are excited about their new listing, and not give a thought to how it will be received by others. You all know what I mean. How many times have we seen an MLS sheet with one or two sentences describing the property in the meager of ways?
Stop and think about it for a moment. Our MLS is the portal to world in our marketing efforts on behalf of our clients. We are proclaiming to the world, the the Internet, there is this super home for sale and they really do need to buy it before someone else does. Right?
Yet some of our fellow professional put the least amount of information on the MLS sheet as if they paid by the letter. This is crazy! When marketing we need to make the most of eavery opportunity to make our clients property seem like the very best deal in town.
We talk so much about the Internet, and SEO, and social marketing, and apps for smart phones and on and on. Still, we miss a very basic, required opportunity to market our listing in the best of ways to the entire world when failing to put as much information on the MLS sheet as possible. There are folks around the world who look at our listings thanks to computers and the Internet. Why would we not want to take advantage of our global reach?
So the next time you are filling out that old MLS sheet, remember you are marketing to the entire planet.
