But so true in most of our lives. The thing is, we all have mentors, most of us just don't realize it and for those who do, they don't know how to cultivate the knowledge they are being exposed to.

 

Guidance, etiquette, models and systems...you name it and our mentors have it and are willing to share their thoughts, emotions, experiences and reasons to help us hone the best life we can. Most of us just don't listen. Frustrating for the mentor? Yeah. That's why there are so few good ones willing to take the time to hit us square in the face with the reality that they are here to help, then pick us back up, brush us off and get us started down the right path of life.

Take some time to look around and discover who your mentors have been and are now. Without them, you wouldn't have gotten where you are today and recognizing that they are real and probably right next to us now will open a whole new chapter in your life. Focus on helping them help you and ask questions. That's the part that's missing in the two-way street with our mentors today; we don't ask questions. Deeper discussion and understanding happen when we are curious.

Go be alone. Analyze the people in your life now and in the past. Target those you see as mentors and start purposefully building that relationship with the goal of learning. You'll find that all that "useless talk" you thought you grew up with really wasn't.
