I spent a good part of the day at he South Padre Island Kite Festival on SPI, Texas.  Lots of unique kites, flags and wind toys.  And the multi-line kite demonstrations were phenomenal!  I used to fly two line kites and make kites myself, but things I saw today were way beyond anything I could have even imagined in both design and performance.

How fun!  Great pics, right now seeing pictures without snow is so refreshing.  Looks like you had a great day!  --Krystal

Believe it or not, South Padre Island had snow on the ground and about an inch of ice a day earlier.  Saturday was so nice that I started out with a coat, but was soon down to a t-shirt.  It go up into the 60's.

Can you imagine you are a bird up there flying around.  You look ahead to view your course, and here is the "mother of all butterflies" sharing your airspace.  Perhaps that's why there are no birds in your pictures.  I like the top photo.  It looks like the spokes of a giant wheel.

Myrl, We have more species of birds in this area than anywhere in the world because the migratory routes of these many species funnel down and come right through our area.  The World Birding Association has even moved its headquarters here.

I've always heard so much about South Padre Island as a Spring Break location, but I have yet to set foot out of California. Not even to Mexico, which is just 18 miles away.
