Superbowl Sunday Open House? Yay or Nay?

By
Real Estate Agent with eXp Realty of California, Inc. CA DRE #01490977

The long awaited Superbowl is here, with the Packers and the Steelers, both with multiple Superbowl wins, kicking off at 6:30 PM ET.

I ask this question every year, because it always yeilds some interesting commentary about the Superbolw, open houses on Superbowl Sunday, creative ideas for hosting an open house on this day, and more.

The Annual Decision - To Watch the Superbowl or Sell Real Estate? Or Both?

Superbowl

Depending on where you live, the kickoff will happen after the staditionla open house so it may not be an issue. but it falls during the time our Southern California open hosues typically occur.

So again the question:

Are you hosting an open house TODAY, on Superbowl Sunday?

Why or why not?

Have you had success doing so in the past?

What if you clients request it?

Jeff, I think Superbowl Sunday is as good a time as any to host an open house.  You could certainly get creative - especially if you are in the vicinity of one of the two competing teams.  I am on floor duty today and hoping that it will be a productive day as well.

I am doing open house today.  The game doesn't start till 5:30 our time, and I am doing 2-4.  Hopefully there will be some serious buyers coming out to visit.

I think I would say go for it!.....many don't watch the game...and in your and mine area it is late enough that many will come early!

I did one yesterday and had 2 couples through!  Very motivated...one is working with an agent...i contacted her already and the other will be longterm...they can't buy quite yet due to a bankruptcy...but they want to work with me!

I'm not sitting an open today but why not, the game is later.

Hi Jeff, I think both. Suffient time to hold open a property and still enjoy the game.  Serious buyers, unless they committed to a Super Bowl party somewhere are likley anxious to be out there in the market place.

PS, I want to qualify the above answer. What is remarkable with all the marketing hype over the years is that the Super Bowl has come to almost to be considered a national holiday. And so it really is a personal determination to make on how you actually feel about that. If the San Diego Chargers were playing, it might be a tougher call. On the otherhand, they aren't so unless you have a horse in the race or just love the commercials, go for the Open House. Turn on the TV, LOL.

Jeff- lol- I love what William has to say about it being a national holiday of sorts....

A very enterprising agent might put the game on a flatscreen with surround sound and really play up the super bowl open house angle.  Serve food and drinks and get people to sit down and stay awhile...  That said, I am not holding one today, but I wouldn't be against it.

There are some of us who are non-plussed by football. You might get them in as an anti-superbowl party.

Jeff there were only two Open Houses today in all of Middlesex County.  I would not think that it would be a good idea to do Open Houses today where you are because of the start time of the game.  But I don't understand why Realtors do not do them here since the game does not start for 3 1/2 hours from the end of the Open House.

Jeff, I did not schedule an open house. I wrote all day - one offer and one new listing. I chose to play real estate...

I'll say Nay. If I do one at all, which I admit is rare, Saturdays tend to do better for me.  So regardless of Super Bowl Sundays are a no for me in general.

yeah Jeff, you can always do one earlier if you have a good hum dinger house, but if not enjoy the day and maybe pick up a lead at a party
