Taxation Without Representation ?

That was Sundays Headlines - West Hawaii Today. Homeowners at the Luxury Hualalai Resort paid approx $12,000,000.00 in Property Taxes. Maybe your not familiar with Hualalai Resort, but it only has about 300 homeowners, these 300 homeowners average about 12 weeks a year in their luxury resort, so combined -they pay about a million dollars a week for the luxury of living behind those gates. The article goes on to talk about how the developers were assessed an additional $6,400,000. for their "Fair Share" contributions? Now the county did not build their roads, their parks, install their street lights or even hook them up to sewer (they maintain a private system), the developer paid for all that. They don't use our schools, they cant think of a time that the Fire or Police Departments were EVER called out there. So the Taxation without representation, comes into effect because these homeowners don't live here enough to be able to vote - so whatever Hilo wants - Hilo gets. The mayor passed a bill last year raising the tax for Non Residents by 28% - and it seems that most of that money goes for improvements to the Hilo side of the island-  As a Hawaii Resident now 27 years, and a Kona resident 11 years, I find it a little frustrating. If you live here for awhile you really start to see the big picture. You see, 2/3 of the full time population live on the Hilo side. Flip side to that is 2/3 of the taxation money comes from the Kona side, and it feels like 90% if the improvements are done on the Hilo side.  I was always amazed at driving over saddle road - literally at the sign that proclaimed you were leaving Kona - the road improved by 100% - you think they could have been a little more subtle about it - you know, before I go of on a tantrum here - let me get back on track - because that subject deserves an article of its own. Interesting thing this year, it seems that the new tax increase hasn't slowed things down at all - we had a record setting 70+ Private Jets parked at the end of the runway this year, from Christmas to New Years - Costco was the busiest I have ever seen it. These rich and famous, fly in, turn right exiting the airport - drive 4 miles to Costco, load up, turn right back around and head out to their luxury resort - very good for business's here in Kona. You hear of names like - Bill Gates partner - Paul Allen, Michael Dell, Cher, The GoDaddy guy-Bob Parsons, The Heart Valve Guy-Robert Jarvick, actor Gene Hackman, Kelsey Grammer.......... the list goes on and on - and because of all the secrecy I cant be sure of the people I named either, but it seems to be a pretty well know fact on most of them.  

Where I am going with this story? - how about looking at the latest deals in Hualalai Resort
