I thought I was on an episode of HOARDERS
While looking at homes for sale in Wailuku Heights with a client the other day we had an appointment to see a brand new Wailuku Heights listing . Well not really an appointment, more like a window of opportunity/feeding frenzy, as the listing agent was letting everyone come by for one hour. It's a court ordered sale and $499,000 is a good price for this neighborhood. There was a small crowd of curious people.
From the outside the home looked normal, and even modest for the neighborhood. Many homes in here are valued over $1M and it's a highly desirable area for Maui residents who are moving up in the world. You'll find a lot of Maui professionals living here, including doctors and lawyers, pilots and accountants.
Inside the home it was another story - much like an episode of HOARDERS! We had to tiptoe around stacks of stuff and overflowing boxes everywhere. All the closets were stuffed, and all the surfaces piled high. It was a real eye opener. One lady commented that it looked a lot better than when she saw it last week, as half the junk was already taken away. WHAT! I can't even begin to imagine that you could pack more stuff into this home.
The interesting twist is that this home is being sold by the courts because the owner has been arrested. Lloyd Kimura is a CPA who was bilking his clients to the tune of million$. i don't personally know this man, and I'm glad to say I never had any dealings with any of his businesses. It's very unfortunate for this family who have been good members of the community.

wow, that is wild Georgina. I had a seller I fired because of condition of the home last year.
It is incredible how much people can accumulate and then loose control of the home. I guess you can get so overwhelmed by clutter that you don't know where to start. I often wonder if there are real treasures hidden that are lost that way.
Just stopping by to invite you to the 2nd Annual ActiveRain Super Bowl Party. Hope you’ll come and bring some friends!
Sounds like a mess to me. What an unfortunate situation! I guess that for that price, someone can get rid of all the stuff if necessary and start over.
Wow, his home life matched his "professional" life - a total mess. It doesn't surprise me.
So, did this house sell?
Thanks for your comments. No it hasn't gone Pending yet, as of last night. Not only was the house way too cluttered, but the floor plan was kind of strange too. Too many little rooms everywhere and not a nice feeling in the kitchen.
Georgina - Unfortunately, I actually know someone who lives in a house like that! She has newspaper piles and magazine piles that are YEARS old and thinks she needs to keep them in case something important might be in them.
