Looks like painting your grass is becoming popular in real estate....really, i'm serious!

Call it weird weather patterns or global warming, one things for sure...it's been HOT and we're experiencing drought like conditions in most parts of the the U.S.  Grass is a nice shade of brown and I even cut my foot on a blade of grass walking barefoot through my crispy lawn this morning. It's BAD out there.

This has been an exceptional tough time for sellers in keeping up a pristine lawn...with longer days on market and a tighter budget, its been nearly impossible to water that lawn for months on end.

Now there is a solution that's catching on and becoming popular. It's spray painting your lawn like they do the football fields.  Apparently this is catching on like wildfire because the company "Always Green Grass Painting" was just named by a Chicago newspaper as one of the fastest growing franchises.  Targeting real estate companies to offer this as a service to their sellers is just one of many type of clients the company is marketing to.

I guess seeing is believing if this will really catch on.

Teresa,

Glad to see it was not just my imagination!  My husband acccidently used the wrong product on our lawn and killed it in a few spots.  I went to our local Home Depot and asked about the green colored lawn spray (because I thought I had seen it on an HGTV show) and they looked at my like I was nuts!  A couple of gals asked their supervisor and she said that she had heard of it but they only carried it in hot places like Texas!  I am ready to break out the food coloring if it doesn't grow back soon!

I guess California isn't hot enough???

Eva: You made me laugh! You're not nuts after all!

Maria: Just read your enjoyable blog. (too funny!) :)   I think the article you feature there might have been referring to stagers taking spray cans of green paint to paint small spots in the grass and landscaping. That mention probably came from 20/20's staging episode where ASP stagers were filmed and one of them sprayed the grass with a can of the stuff.  This is the first I've heard of actually spraying the ENTIRE yard and there are companies now that actually do it for a business..... Who knew?

LOL oh I have seen way worse. I once saw a builder took the entire lawns of sod after open house to put them on another lawn at their next open house!

Crazy, huh?!

Okay, I've been thinking about this for a while and this is hwat I don't get.  This summer, we were in a near drought state and everyone's grass was brown and brittle.  While some watered their lawns daily to keep them green, we did not as many  other areas were under a watering restriction.  You could tell who valued the greenness of their lawn over the need for water conservation.

In those areas where brown grass is the norm, won't the green stick out like a sore thumb?  How odd would it be to drive down a street of pure golden brown and be struck with one green lawn - the one that happens to be for sale.  Is it supposed to make people think they are buying miracle grass?  It just seems so silly - and contrived - to me.

I wonder what this costs?  I can see doing it when you were holding a special event (like an outdoor wedding), but otherwise, I would think the money could be better invested in another area to market your home.

Interesting post: It seems like one more way to live in a plastic environment, even if the site states it is non toxic and environmentally friendly. I doubt if many generation X'ers who I have worked with will get to excited over buying into a fake green lawn. Try just not having a green lawn and opt for something more natural such as draught friendly planting and rock-scaping.

Teresa,

I ran into a home in Westerville that had the lawn sprayed. I have also told some people that they can have iron spread on the lawn and watered it in. In about 3 days you will start to see a darker green lawn showing up. My lawn has always been greener than my neighbors all season long. I treat my lawn with the iron once in the early spring and then in late July. But if the weather keeps going the way it is, this might be a new business to look into.

I actually forwarded this info on to a friend who is looking for a business.  I can see it catching on in my neck of the woods.. if only for the commercial application (football fields, upscale community areas, etc)....

I've only just today heard about this. Home embarrassing; it seems it's been around for awhile.  Not sure how I feel about doing the entire yard this way, however as long as you disclose sections of the yard that has been altered with paint, maybe that's ok?  Don't know.
