Super Bowl Ads And Small Business AdvertisingPhone

I attended a Prince William Chamber, Small Business Round-table discussion. The topic was, "What Can Small Businesses Learn From Super Bowl Ads." Here were the four major advertising points that we learned.

  • There was repetition.
  • Target marketing.
  • In your face feel good ad's.
  • Call to action.

Lets look a little deeper into each one.

There was repetition - Doritos's, Coke, Budweiser ran several ad's through out the Super Bowl. Many of the Super Bowl advertisers did commercial's leading up to Super Bowl Sunday. They did this by showing segments of their commercial and encouraging you to watch on Sunday.

Target marketing - They all had a target market they were trying to reach. Knowing your product or service can help you know your target. You can have more than one target market but you need to be able to put together and ad that will target just that specific clientl.

In your face feel good ad's - Coke it the # one advertiser for in your face feel good ad's. Example is two opposing opponents are given a Coke. The out come is they are not opponents any longer and become friends. ie. using my product  will makes you feel good and happy.

Call to action - A good example of this was GoDaddy.com. They had one commercial that lead to another that then told you to go to their website to see the ending of the commercial.

As small businesses we discussed ways to be repetitive, target your market, feel good advertising and call to action on a Small business budget.

  1. By joining your local Chamber, Networking groups, using social media and bloggs, and showing consistent interaction.
  2. Holding seminars and doing joint advertising with other small businesses who have the same target market. Sponsoring events and support local non profits in your area.
  3. Using social media and write bloggs showing how you helped a client. This gives the reader the feel good attitude about you and your business.
  4. Leading people to your website or social media site by offering a free brochure or for more information. Collecting business cards and following up with everyone you meet.

Bottom line is that you need to be in front of people for top of mind awareness. Know your target market. Be positive and willing to share, especially knowledge about your business. Make it easy for people to contact you.

So true. Especially about knowing your target market.  For smaller businesses who can't afford tv, are there other forms of advertising they can do to get "top-of-mind."
