Do you want your contact info in my phone, or in a drawer?

I'm not the only one who is fascinated by these codes. I really love the flexibility of them- you can code pretty much ANYTHING into them. Plug your website- insult your friends- offer a coupon- criticize politicians- proposition your honey...you name it and you can do it.

I've been following posts about these for awhile on Active Rain. There seems to be two schools of thought- one that, like me thinks they are fun and useful, and another that says they are a fad and will blow over.

I'm proposing that those of you in the 2nd category just aren't getting it!

It is about CONVENIENCE! I use a Droid, and I LOVE my phone. It isn't so much a phone as a mini computer that happens to take photos and phone calls. BUT I really hate to type into it. I don't text much for that reason. Even my sons, who text constantly, tell me that they hate to put someone into contacts.

If you scan the QR code below, you get it all- our names, our address, our email, our website. All at once. When I scan it with my Droid I get buttons that let me, WITH ONE CLICK, add the info to contacts, show Prest Realty on a map, call our phone number, or send us an email, and it also shows all our info on the screen, with the web site URL as a clickable link.

If you give me your business card, honestly it's going in a drawer until (or unless) I need it. And I may never see it again. If I really need your number in my phone I MIGHT put in your name and number, but for sure I'm NOT putting in everything else. But with the QR code I can give all the info to you and all you have to do is click!

As a consumer, much less a real estate agent I love these things. Something this convenient is NOT going away any time soon.

OK that's a good use. I'm in the group that thinks they're fun, but not too useful.  I'll have to download whatever it is I need, and start checking some of them out.

Thanks, Joetta. That is my point- that they are VERY convenient for people who already use smartphones.

Leslie,

I wrote a post yesterday about saving your QR code as an image on your phone. In the comments, I came to realize that some QR code readers don't support vCard data, so I'm thinking of switching to using a link to a vcf file instead of embedding the data into the QR code. What has your experience been as far as people not able to add the data to their contacts?

Scott- the people (not too many) who have told me they scanned it, say it is very easy, as it is on my phone.

QR Codes are here and can be very useful. However, they are only as good as the person's creativity to use them though.

Hi, Jody. When I scanned your code my phone wouldn't play the video. Maybe because I haven't bothered with putting flash on my droid?
