OK ... I'm fishing for feedback from you SEO types.  My concern is the potential "spammy" appearance of linked images.

The AR editing tools are excellent in facilitating image "alt" tags and link "titles".  The question in mind is "Is duplicating "alt tag" content in the link's "title tag" getting sort of spammish?"

Along with the "img title tag", these tags are increasingly important because they interact with software that facilitates access to the web by handicapped persons.  So here's how the html of my linked logos end up ...

  • Image Description (alt tag): Washington Real Estate
  • Image Title:  logo
  • Link Title: Washington Real Estate

What's your opinion?  Is this spammish?

Thanks Rich.

Bob ... you missed the point.  This regards html tag tweeking and not relevance of content.

Since I wrote the resource that Bob mentioned... that missed the point, I'll address the point.

It is not spammy to put the same text in the alt and title attributes, unless the text is spammy.  The blog entry http://www.evotech.net/blog/2007/08/alternitive-text-for-images-the-alt-attribute/ does address what to write as the value for the alt attribute.  As long as both the title and the alt attribute values relay information that is included in the image, then it isn't spam.  It's when you feed unrelated spam terms, or repeat terms, especially irrelevant ones, in the values that it becomes spammish.

In response to your question, do not include 2 title attributes: include an alt attribute for your image, and a title attribute for your link, and you'll be golden.

  • YES: Image Description (alt tag): Washington Real Estate
  • NO:  Image Title:  logo
  • YES: Link Title: Washington Real Estate

 I hope that helps.
