How Important is Entry Presentation When Selling My Home?

Home buyers will often make up their mind whether they like your home for sale or not, within the first few seconds of entering your home.  Therefore, a fetching entry or foyer presentation is crucial to engaging buyers and enticing them to see more of your home.  You don't want buyers to shut down, but to keep an open mind and even be intrigued to see what the rest of the home has to offer.

One way I like to create a beautiful entry, is by hanging a bold, colourful piece of artwork.  Having a console table is ideal, and placing a large vase of flowers or a flower arrangement of some sort on top of the console, really adds life and pizzaz to the entry.  Greenery is also quite becoming, and an interesting tree or potted greenery adds a fresh feel, as if you're bringing the outdoors in.

Here are examples of a few foyers we have staged:

Shar - You silly goose - not at all!  I just love the input we all have here.  It makes us all better.  I'm sure I've done entries with lamps, just not these ones.  How funny.  So, tell me more about your lamp fetish...  Ha ha ha!

Yesterday I stood with a home seller in her entry and said "this is your BIG WOW".  Sellers will be making their decision by how you make them feel from the moment they step in the room.  What did we see - wallpaper, cheap entry rug, no art or table and a huge dusty plant and coat rack -- ugg.  No wonder it's been on the market for 5 months with limited showings.

Margaret - You couldn't have given that seller better advice!  Oh dear, sounds like you've got your hands full with this one!  I sure hope the seller has hired you to turn their house around and get it sold.  5 months on the market is 5 months too many!

I think you are spot on when you say that people start to imagine living in a home the second they enter it. My wife and I just bought a condo, and even though it doesn't have a traditional foyer, or entry way, the presentation of the owners immediately upon entering the home was flawless. Right when my wife walked in, she could see herself living here.

Beautiful pictures!

Sally,

Your photos are a fabulous example of how to catch a buyers eye the minute they walk into the door.  The use of properly placed furniture and stunning accessories give each of the entryways a warm and inviting feel that says....  Welcome Home!!!  Outstanding post!

I think I see evidence of a Francophile! =o) Very nicely done, and I love seeing in the last photo, that I am not the only stager that makes abstract art work vertically or horizontally, as needed!  ;0)

Cheryl - Guilty as charged!  As for the painting, that has probably been the most versatile painting in my stash!  It's wonderful, as you mentioned, either vertically or horizontally, and it's also great as a faux headboard for a bed!

Those photos are stunning Sally.  You really did an excellent job on them all.  I agree totally that the first impression is made as soon as potential buyers walk in the door.  If the foyer is dark, dingy, untidy or in need of some TLC, you've already lost them.

Charlene - Dark, dingy, untidy foyers be gone!  We need light, bright, airy, happy, enticing entries.

Stunning and flawless, these seem to be the consensus.  I must concur.  Absolutely beautiful Sally.  I want to see more of each!

Laura - Awww, thanks, Laura - if you want to see more of each, then buyers will think that way too - bingo!

Judy - That's the key word "welcoming".  It's a simple but oh so effective concept.
