If you’re planning a Fishers Indiana relocation,
CONGRATULATIONS! We hope you’re excited to be moving to one of Money magazine’s 2010 Top 100 Best Places to Live in America. You’ve probably already started a moving checklist. Set up utilities. Check. Register kids for school. Check. Open a local bank account. Check. Find a Fishers pet boarding kennel. Double check!
As a pet owner, you might require some additional space on that checklist - particularly if you’ll need a place for Fido to stay while you’re searching Fishers homes for sale or waiting to move into your new Fishers home.
We’ve compiled a list of really good questions to ask and things to remember about your pet’s stay at a Fishers pet boarding kennel. Knowing that your furry family members are in good hands will make it easier for you to enjoy the thrill of your new home!
(really good) Questions to ask your Fishers pet boarding kennel:
· What services are included in the fee? At a minimum, you should expect your dog to be let out two or more times daily, with one exercise time.
· What services are extra? Depending on the boarding facility, daily walks, extra play time and even administering medication may cost you extra.
· What vaccinations are required? This is important to know before you leave your current location so that you can get any necessary shots and records from your veterinarian. If vaccinations aren’t required, consider whether you really want to leave your pet there.
· What does the kennel area look like? Don’t depend on Internet pictures or in a brochure. Ask to tour the facility before you leave your pet. If the kennel staff isn’t willing to accommodate you, find another facility that will.
· Are cats and dogs kept in separate areas? Dogs are big. And smelly. And loud. From a cat’s perspective, anyway! Boarding is especially stressful for cats, and being in close confines with canines only makes it more so. Ideally, cats and dogs should be separated.
· Can you provide references? Pet owners are usually passionate about their “babies” and will be more than happy to tell you what they liked, or didn’t like, about a facility. If you want references other than those provided by the kennel, ask your Fishers real estate agent.
· How are special dietary and medical needs recorded? Kennels typically care for many animals at the same time. If they aren’t writing down your pet’s special needs, chances are they aren’t going to remember exactly what they are.
· What are your emergency procedures? If something should happen to your pet during their stay at a Fishers boarding kennel, what veterinary service is used? If they can’t get contact you right away, will they treat your pet anyway?
