Veteran's Memorial, The Dalles, Oregon

We're still new enough to the region that we often find ourselves stumbling upon great spots, incredible views and touching tributes. One such place is the Veteran's Memorial at Sorosis Park, 350 E. Scenic Drive, The Dalles.

Veteran's Memorial, The Dalles

It is a very touching memorial for Wasco County veterans who have participated in the country's wars. A separate Vietnam Veteran Memorial (center column) is next to the WWI, WWII, Persian Gulf and earlier conflicts (right side of the above picture).  To the left is a memorial to Seargent First Class Loren R. Kaufman, resident of The Dalles, who was awarded the Medal of Honor, posthumously, for his actions during the Vietnam War.

Mel's father was a 30 year veteran of the US Navy Seabees, who had four tours of duty in Vietnam.  These memorials remind us of the service of our veterans as well as those serving today. God Bless Them.

There is a brick with my name on it there, next to one for my great uncle who died on Iwo Jima on one side, and another for a dear friend who fought in World War II and part of the Normandy invasion, on the other.  It really is a beautiful place.  Great vantage point, with a great view up and down the Columbia River, The Dalles Dam and city and surrounding area.  Thanks for the great picture.
