The coldest night

By
Real Estate Agent with Better Homes and Acres

The coldest night

of the year is what I heard last night on the news in Chicago.

It was pretty cold in Beaverton MI last night too.

When I went out to start my car this morning, I also started the Mazda pick up for my daughter

The engine just rolled at first and I wondered if it would start

gladwin mi

and then it did...

But I have a question....

Everyone (Right) knows that the shortest day of the year is in December,

so my question, is why is winter not more centered around the shortest day

when the sun is so far away

Why does the rest of and the worst of the winter start about January -

so much after the shortest day?

The first time I went to Omaha and saw plugs in barking meters to keep batteries warm I knew i was in a cold place

"why is winter not more centered around the longest day"  it seems to me that these long days of winter are the longest (w/o sun)...and coldest winter I can recall. This is when we wish we were in Australia. December has the shortest day of the year then the days begin to lengthen.

We only get down to zero once or twice a season -- if at all.  Not too sure I could live in a place where that was the norm!  I hope someone answers your question correctly, because I for one do not know.

Marilyn,

Good question.  I remember my days in Minnesota when I debated whether to get out of my warm bed at the University for an 8AM class, when the temperature was measured in wind chill, such as -20F,  I could not layer enough to keep the chill out even in the tunnels under the buildings.  Yikes! A

Marilyn,

Looks like you stumped us all with that one. I am happy just knowing each day is getting a little longer and winter a little further behind.

Teral, I edited that - three times! The shortest day just FEELS like the longest day! My niece spent last year in Australia and loved it!!!

Richard, I don't like to be cold - it actually hurts! I got a pretty good answer from a friend on Facebook after it fed over there - will share it beginning of the week hopefully!

Ron & Alexandra, Memories.... Sounds like most days you did get up after the debate!!!

John, Yes, each day, spring is one more closer!!!! Like I said to Richard - have a pretty good answer over on facebook - hope to share it with everyone!!!

Have a great weekend!
