What kind of REALTOR reputation do YOU have and do you think that's important?

My reputation as a professional Realtor is important to my career and important to my clients. I work very hard at developing and maintaining a good relationship with other Realtors in our association, and that's important because I have a reputation for being professional and thorough, relaxed and accessible.Business Professionals Working Together

While I don't think cooperating Realtors are going to steer their clients to purchase my listings, I do know that they look forward to having a transaction with me if we've done one together in the past.

When my Buyers give me a list of properties they'd like to see, here are some thoughts that run through my head,

"Chatty, Linda. Very thorough and good to work with -- as long as everything goes smoothly. Only wants to communicate over the phone, and if any glitch comes our way, she will talk about it for two hours."
"Lovely Kari. Always replies punctually, rarely misses a deadline or document, very professional and courteous."
"Super Cathy. Once helped me challenge an appraisal when I was representing the Seller and she represented the Buyer. Thinks outside of the box and is a great problem-solver."
"Hellish Helen. Well she misrepresented her Buyers in one transaction in a multiple-offer situation and handled the transaction in an unethical manner. Will think three times before entering a transaction with her clients."

What kind of REALTOR reputation do YOU have?

I HOPE that I'm described by fellow Realtors as,

"Ready, willing and able Lori Cain - ready to do business; willing to conduct a transaction in a personable and professional manner; able to represent her clients' best interest while fostering an environment for all parties to be served."

Do you know what kind of reputation YOU have among cooperating Realtors, and do you think it's important?

Lori - while ultimately we cannot discriminate against one buyer because the agent is a a super.....  head.... if there were 2 bids, exactly the same... and one was the twerp... we all know who we would advise our sellers to choose.... being nice, ethical and straightforward pays off! Best. Gay

Lori, Great blog.  I know several people I don't return phone calls to very quickly because they waste time, lie and cheat through transactions.  It is a shame, but these people are few.  I know so many more that are open and giving and ready to get things done.  This business is chatty, I love your question of who you are.

Gay and Larry, thanks for your input. When possible, we all want to work with who we know to be ethical and efficient!

I LOVE this!!! I think we ALL have those kind of Realtors (you've named) and as professionals, we usually learn to deal with each one; case by case.   I know Realtors that are horrible with  paperwork, so I know I'll have to keep after him all during the escrow... Then there's the one that will NOT answer your phone calls...   Oh man, could we go on.

...bottom line is we NEED to have a good relationship with them.  And, I'd say I have a good relationship with 99%. And that other 1% I don't worry about. I deal with them when/if the time comes.

(Some I can hardly stand, though, gotta tell you).

Kat, I didn't name them all!  Hellish Helen has been on my mind recently though!! We really do need to have good relationships, and I strive to have a good reputation for my benefit AND my clients!

I think our reputation with other agents in our market area can  be hugely important!  I can think of numerous times when glitches were made smoother, negotiations stayed civil, communications flowed, and deadlines were met - all because the other agent and I knew each other, respected each other and believed in each others' professionalism and competence.  (And I can think of examples of the exact opposite - but we won't go there!)

Ah yes, the nick names we give others.  I'm gonna have to ask what some of them call me.  I once did have one tell me I was full of you know what when I questioned her answer about a manufactured home title.  But in the end... my client DID get that title she said would be "impossible" to obtain.

Lori - In order to protect the guilty (as well as my rep and job), I'm going to keep my pet names to myself.  Besides changing the names to protect the guilty wouldn't be the same.  However, I do know what some of the Realtors (my Realtor friends) around here call me:  Lil Miss Info Overload because I have a bad habit of scary the holy beejesus out of their clients with way TMI.
