Had a hankerin' for a burger....Popeye Burger anyone?

So I had really been craving a good burger.  Hubby and I have really cut a lot of red meat out of our diet so nine times out of ten, if we do burgers, it's generally with turkey.  Don't get me wrong...there is absolutely NOTHING about a good chunk of beef I don't like, but we find that ground turkey is pretty acceptable.

So last night I did my version of a Popeye Burger!  We made up some turkey patties and I drizzled them with some olive oil then sprinkled some seasoning on them.  After they went onto the grill and were flipped, they were topped with swiss cheese.

While hubby was tending the bar-b-que, I was inside getting the rest of the fixin's ready for our Popeye Burgers.

I heated a pan with some olive oil then added a few shakes of Tempura sauce.  I let the pan cool down to just a warm temperature.  As the burgers came off the grill, I lightly tossed some fresh baby spinach in the oil/tempura mixture.  I didn't want to completely wilt the greens, just saute them lightly.

The burgers went on to toasted Onion Buns, topped with the spinach.  I made a chipolte mayo as the spread, and we had some oven roasted "fries" (red potatos roasted in olive oil then topped with sea salt) on the side.

While certainly not considered "health food", a bit of a healthier option than beef and fried potatoes.

Enjoy!

What you made sounds pretty good & I'm all for eating helathy + i'm on a wedding diet.

But, when you have a "hankerin" for a burger, you have to do it right.

Andrew, is it warm enough out your way for outdoor grilling?  Heck, we've grilled in the snow...no worries!

Oh Chris!  The fried egg idea.  My dad LOVES a fried egg on a burger and got our son hooked on that.  Just not something this gals gut can handle!  lol  And yes, you are right....A true hankerin' would indeed call for juicy beef now wouldn't it!

Thanks, guys!

Okay, you Guys are making me really really hungry. I love burgers and dogs! I would agree that ground turkey is a pretty good substitute for beef, but boy do I love beef :)

Karen,

Looks fantastic.  I like the idea of the slightly wilted spinach.  Thanks for sharing.
