Who can I complain to?

We as Realtors take a Code of Ethics course and swear to certain types of behavior as Realtors, but who can we complain to when we are abused by the general public?  Whose with me?  Good Lord, I am running into the most RUDE people lately who have no R E S P E C T for my time.  You know the ones who call in the middle of the night, during your dinner or even after 8 p.m.  How about those that call you the day they arrive and want you to stop everything you are doing to assist them.  Somehow their lack of planning now is your fault?  What has happened in this country that it is okay to be RUDE.

Since I have no governing board for the general public who treats me in a RUDE and DISRESPECTFUL manner, I fire them !  Yes, I can choose who I want to work with and whom I feel is just not a good fit for my own morals, ethics, and high standards of respect.

Don't get abused in this business.  Pick and choose your buyers and sellers and make sure it is a good fit with your business plan.  If you are like me, you work hard for a living and deserve to be treated with civility and like the song said, R E S P E C T !

great piece of advice, I notice so many agents put themselves through hell just for the pay check.  Can't chase a deal.

It would be nice if there were etiquette police for poor behavior.  But you're right - it is up to us to decide on our self-worth.  Good for you for dropping people who treat you without respect.

Kelly, my first mentor told me "all deals are not good deals." I now know what she meant. Sometimes we must draw the line.

Kelly - In this world, only you can demand the respect that you are afforded. Set the ground rules with clients and don't let them infringe upon them. Your life can change if you demand it.

I think it is a sign of the times.  We have the same issues, most commonly, the one where the client calls and says, "I'm here, can we go look at property now?"  They expect you to drop whatever it is you are doing and go right then to show them property.  I can't do that most of the time and sadly it has cost me a client or two.  My feeling is that if they are that rude and can't even give me a little advance notice, they are probably just tire kickers anyway.  They want a tour guide, not a Real Estate professional.

I have been pretty fortunate to only experience a handful of "rude" customers, who can totally drain your time and energy. Best of luck with 2011 - sending wishes for only thoughtful, courteous, educated clients for you! Think positive....
