Annapolis Views - Ego Alley on a Winter Morning

By
Real Estate Agent with Long & Foster Real Estate, Inc.

Crofton is located about 20 minutes from Annapolis, Maryland's State Capital and home to the United States Naval Academy. One of our favorite downtown destinations is Buddy's Crab House on Sunday mornings for their all-you-can eat brunch buffet, followed by a stroll to the City Dock and perhaps some window-shopping on Main Street.

The view in downtown Annapolis MD at this time of year is quite different from the hustle and bustle of warmer months.  Nowhere is that more evident than Ego Alley.

All was calm and quiet on the cold Sunday morning when I snapped this photo after brunch at Buddy's.  No movement of boats jockeying to be seen and coveted by tourists... no one visible partying on those expensive yachts... a lone seagull perched on the City Dock keeping watch over all...

As much as I love Annapolis in the spring, summer and fall seasons, there's something special about this city on a cold winter morning.

I hope you enjoy this series of Annapolis Views posted weekly on the Maryland Real Estate Blog.

It's interesting to sit at the edge along there and watch the boats come in one by one.  Your term Ego Alley is perfect...

Thank you for a lovely photo. You are right, Annapolis is a great place to visit at any time - I will be bringing my family soon. We usually come during summer, but winters there are so lovely! P.S. Woda means water in Polish - are you of Polish origin?

Jay, wish I could claim credit for that term... this has been described as Ego Alley for as long as I can remember...

Paula, Annapolis is a beautiful little historic town that once served as our Nation's Capitol, and George Washington resigned his commission here.  Still a thriving city loved by all who live and visit here.

Liz and Bill, you're right... it is... almost worth putting up with the cold.

Elizabeth, I married into the name, so I can't claim any background associated with it.  However, I like it a lot better than my maiden name which was Loveless.  You can imagine the comments I got on that as a teenager.

Kimberly, I've about run out of scenic photos for my immediate neighborhood, but I don't think I'll ever run out of them for nearby Annapolis.

Margaret, as I was reading the text, I trying to gather the origins of Ego Alley, and as you went on the light bulb clicked, just as Jay points out.

Margaret, the water looks a tad bit to cold for the seagull to jump in! Your image reminds me what makes Annapolis so special!

The Seagull is saying "Bull pucky on Ego Alley...let the parties begin...I'm hungry! "

I see you are building, or have been building your library!

Kathryn - You're right - beautiful at any time of year, but much different in winter without the seasonal festivals on the City Dock and tourists in the shops and restaurants.

Dorie - A very appropriate name.  It's quite the showplace for those who want to be seen in the fair-weather months.  Lots of partying going on there!

Ed - You don't see the small daysailers in this area very often, even though they'd be easier to navigate there.  LOL.

Emily - Not many humans in sight on a cold winter morning, even a weekend morning.  BRRRRR.

Rebecca - We never tire of visiting Annapolis... we might even enjoy it more than the folks who live there (and probably take it for granted).

Tom - There are only so many scenic photos you can take of Crofton, but Annapolis is so close... and so beautiful.
