Why Do I Care About You?

I love Sky Mall magazine. I travel constantly yet every month I have to pick up the latest Sky Mall to see if anything has changed. It's the freak show of products. There are outstanding new innovations like the case that will allow you to take your iPod underwater,to the ridiculous products SkyRest pillow (pg. 115 of the summer edition) that shows anobviously very tired man with the oddest pillow you have ever seen.
The magazine is much like the Champlain Valley Fair I attended in Essex, Vermont. People of all walks of like come to this fair to view everything from luxury buses to the newest farm tractors. It's an oddity just walking through the fair but feeling out of your element is exactly what keeps me going back each year.

In some ways real estate has become much like the above examples. Offices feature agents with talents and interests all over the spectrum. The quirky agent who markets herself in unusual ways to the agent who demands that they be treated like they were the only agent on earth. Like any business, real estate is filled with professionals from all walks of life but this is a competitive business. Those who have discovered that they ‘walk' differently then most and realize that they have a niche offering, will hold a distinct advantage over the others in the office.
Anne Jacabs works in a small real estate office in New Hampshire where some of her colleagues call her the trailer park queen.
"I remember the first time someone called me the trailer park queen I was offended. Then I realized that there was a large market for trailer parks in this area and most agents avoided them."
Anne decided to take her niche to a new level and offer her services to every trailer park she could think of in her area. Over the course of two years she was able to capture enough transactions-more than anyone in her company-and become a multi-million dollar business.
Not bad for finding her niche, huh? What's yours?
Wow Matt! What a great example! The trailer park queen!!! A niche is a niche, right?
As a former resident of Vermont and a frequent Sky Mall reader, I'm with you on the analogy!!! :)
