I Needed a Touch of Spring, So I went out to find some!!

It's almost mid February here in Central CT and the snow has been horrible.

I just needed to go find a touch of color other than white or brownish white, but where to go?

Then I caught a thought, lets take a trip to the farms. The bedding farms that is.

Cheshire CT is know as the bedding center of Connecticut, and that has nothing to do with taking a nap.

Some of the largest bedding farms or factory green houses are located in Cheshire CT, most out in the towns western side.

Their expanse is acreage, and inside they are a tropical wonder with colors all over. Green houses have to be months ahead of the climate in order to service their clients. So when it's likely to be snowing up a storm, the inside of a green house would be like being along side a tropical forest.

Colors are brilliant, and plants hang on racks high above the concrete floors.

Temperatures are a slightly humid 75 but nobody is catching rays.

It's not uncommon to see a few fruit trees as well, and depending on how they have been nurtured, they might have a fresh lemon or orange on the limbs.

How great to lose winter for a few minutes, while basking in the sight of annuals getting ready to make their trips to other green houses or nursery's to add color to some florist's bouquet, maybe in time for Valentine's day.

I can hardly wait to get into those green houses, and pick out some annuals for the yard. I've had enough of this white mess!

Good morning Ed,

I saw the snow picture first and loved it, then I scrolled down. I am intrigued with greenhouses.  I could go spend an afternoon in one.  I think it comes from my childhood.  My mom would always take me to Nielsen's greenhouse in Ann Arbor and we would spend wonderful quality time there.  Just strolling the isles, picking out plants.  I think I may build my own in my yard this year.  Thanks for the trip down memory lane.  Have a good Sunday.

Ya know Ed, as much as I look forward to Winter and it's peaceful blanket of fluffy white falling softly covering our area with quiet,... even I have HAD ENOUGH!  I am craving color and I am loving the photo's of color you and so many others have been sharing.  Thank you!  I am getting the gardening itch again.

Good job Ed and great idea for an interesting way to spend some time as the snow slowly melts.  We are headed to a flower show this coming weekend at the Phipps Conservatory in Pittsburgh.  It will be wonderful to catch the riot of tropical smells!

Cindy, as I was driving by a small green house I caught a glimpse of color, and it was like a siren drawing me in. Thanks for stopping

Laura, like enough is enough.

Margaret, you'll get the colors a couple of weeks before we do, but for all of us, it can't be soon enough

Wallace, I haven't been to either a Lowe's or Home Depot as yet, but I'm sure they still have the big piles of salt and shovels prominately displayed.

Michael, you're right, my walls seem to be getting closer

Vance, take some photos to share, we need all the inspiration we can get to finish this winter

Barbara, so many of us with those same thoughts. Bring on the spring

Hey Guys, You people up there in balmy Canada, probably wondering what we're getting all excited about
