Meta Tags and SEO - So Much To Learn

Many of you remember when real estate was about listing and selling homes by using a Springfield MLS Book that came out once a month.  Then the first computer that was directly connected to the MLS and the books eventually disappeared.

Today we research homes from the internet.  MLS is on the internet, our database is on the internet, and all our great personal websites are internet based.  Newspaper advertising is becoming less a necessity, with knowledge of how to drive traffic to your website more important.

Last week we drove to Tulsa Oklahoma and Bentenville Arkansas (home of Walmart) to share how we are driving traffic to our websites.

We immediately let the groups know that I am not a public speaker, I'm a working Springfield Missouri agent just like them and I'm only getting started working with meta tags and search engine optimization.  I quickly learned that the groups I spoke to knew much less.  What an experience!  Training other RE/MAX agents made me realize that I'm further ahead than I thought - but still a long way to go.

By the way, from the sessions I taught, I brought back 50 business cards, of which 10 have already joined Active Rain.

I am learning so much here and realize what little I know, others know much less. So good job. Remember when you first started in real estate ? I knew very little but more than the buyers did.

We forget and downplay what we know and what we have assimilated into our lives.  Teaching others not only help us dig what's back there in the recesses, but also helps cement it as well - Great job!

Kay, it's wonderful to hear that you had this opportunity to speak and share your knowledge with other agents.  We just had our company convention last week and I was surprised to be approached by several agents (some of whom I had never met) who said that they admired my blog and had some questions about it and getting started blogging.  As little as you may think you know sometimes, it's often more than the majority of people knows.

Kay - What a great way to promote Active Rain and at the same time help out some folks who are not so Internet savvy. Seo for me is one of the more fascinating subjects. It is great to become well versed in a subject so important to our business.

Missy, when I first started real estate I knew NOTHING!  There are days when I still think I don't know anything - until I have someone question how our business has survived the bad market so well.  I surprised even myself!  LOL!  You should have seen me several days before........wanting to back out, but not able to without saving face.  Thanks for posting.

Chris, I guess we never stop learning.  The best part of our job is teaching others how to sell real estate - I think it's just as important for realtors to learn how to use all the tools available to them.  Never thought at my age I would training others.  Thank you.

Brian, it is surprising how many people read our blogs.  You're right!  We think we know very little, to find we know more....... which makes us realize we still don't know enough.  Vicious circle!  Good to hear from you.

Bill, SEO is really tough for me.  I've worked with it for years and barely scratched the surface. Active Rain has so many great articles on SEO that's helped me understand more.  By the time I get it figure all of it out, there will be something new.  Thanks for posting.

Kay, I agree with the other agents that commented, you certainly do know more than you think. I know that I have learned so very much from the AR community. In fact it has changed the way I now blog. Good for you being one of the more experienced agents when it comes to SEOs and Meta Tags. BTW, I like your Meez, very cute.

I went online the other night to participate in a coaching session (as part of my e-productivity class) with Brad and Bobby Carrol.  In my mind, they are quite the experts.  I actually hung up after just 25 minutes (to save cell minutes), because I realized they were targeting their presentation to the complete beginner - I didn't need what they were teaching at that moment.  Now that does not by any means suggest I am an expert, but it does support what you're saying.  We are continuing to learn through our ActiveRain experience, and we're getting smarter than we realized.

Eugene, isn't AR great?  Where else could you receive so much information?  I continually learn and try to blog better every day.  If only there was 48 hours in every day!  LOL!  My Meez was fun to make.  Thank you.

Margaret, what amazes me - some agents think what we're doing is not worth the time.  It helps us more than they know.  Glad to see you are staying up with the times too.  Thanks for posting.
