Nestled in what might seem to be the barren desert just east of Twentynine Palms, California, The Beauty Bubble Salon and Museum showcases more than 2,000 pieces of beauty memorabilia inside the working salon of Jeff Hafler. Jeff, as you might imagine, is also the curator of The Beauty Bubble Museum which represents a lifelong collection and passion of the history of beauty, hairstyling and even vanity.

Since Jeff is a hairstylist, the best way to see the museum is to book a hair appointment and let yourself get a new style within the cozy confines of his retro inspired salon and shop. Once complete you'll have plenty of time to peruse the museum exhibits and thrill yourself with all that is has to offer. Since there are hundreds and hundreds of gadgets, combs, electrical devices, advertisements and products from the past you will need to schedule ample time for a complete museum exploration. Jeff, however, in addition to being a talented stylist, is a hospitable host as well.

Some of the more interesting exhibits I remembered were an extensive collection of Farrah Fawcett doll heads, curling irons, hair dryers, and combs and brushes which looked deadly and painful. There was an interesting little item called the C-Bak which was a mid 20thcentury product allowing a woman to see the back of her head by donning specially constructed eyewear. Another museum staple was Veronica Lake's perm machine which she reportedly actually used. Upon seeing the device you might realize why Veronica chose to mostly go with the straight hair look. The walls are lined with retrospective advertisements and there are shelves of product packaging dating back to the beginning of the 20thcentury. It's an amazing collection that's almost overwhelming at times and allows a visitor the chance to reminisce and soak in the nostalgia.

The Beauty Bubble Salon and Museum is open by appointment only. The best way to browse the array of showcased exhibits is by making a styling appointment. Arrangements to see just the museum must be made with Jeff directly. The Beauty Bubble is located within The Moon Way Lodge in Wonder Valley so out of town guests might even find it beneficial to make a weekend getaway of the experience. The phone number is (760) 835-9369 or you might visit their website.
