Vacations can mean busy time, and Sunday came as a surprise. By afternoon I had no comments on AR. I got to the computer by 5 PM. I bought 25 hours of Internet, and I still had over 11 hours yesterday, but computer kept saying that Internet access was unavailable. After fighting with it for 15-30 minutes, I went to the main lobby, where the Internet guru is sitting with a computer.

I told him that I could not connect to the Internet, and first he said, that my days were over. They sell 25 hours for $25, but the catch is that you can only have it for 6 days.

No, I did not use my days. The guys have problem with basic math. When he figured that days were not the problem, then he said that I must have exhausted my minutes.

No, I did not. After my pushing, he started doing something on his computer, then he called his boss and there was a quick conversation in Spanish, so they could have been saying whatever they wanted, as I do not know Spanish.

Finally, he said that in an hour it would be fixed. And he was correct, it came back in an hour, when I was ready to go to dinner for which reservations were made in advance. And by the time we got back from the restaurant, it was not working again, and this time they could not fix it.

So, I could not log in to write comments, I could not log in to post new blog posts that I have prepared. It left me frustrated.

I guess in the 21st century internet is as important as good dinner. Actually maybe even more important.

it is tough when you don't have internet access.  It is very unsettling to be disconnected.

I was disconnected from my iPhone for a couple of days and am surprised I still have a heart beat :)

Jon - you just miss us ... it's not the same with you just "popping in" and not being "in the moment!"  Hope your holiday continues to be fun!  (and I'm not talking about the Internet battle ...)

Laura - I guess we are creatures of habit, and if something is missing that we used to have, we get antsy (at least I do - LOL)

Jon, not sure where you are/were but I've found the internet to be pricey and slow on most Caribbean islands and cruises.  I've decided to try to stay away from it.

When we went to Cuba in Nov. they kept telling us they'd fix the hot water too but it never happened lol.  I have to learn to chill out when away from North America.

Andres - don't even tell me abut IPhone. I turned it on and the first message was that ATT would charge me $19.95 plus something, so I put it in Airport mode.

Don't they have a Starbucks or something? :-)  But yeah, man, take a hint and go explore something outside the hotel.  Camera still works, so take pictures to post later, you know.

Inna - no Starbucks. And exploring things outside of the hotel is not always a good idea. We ventured once, and had enough, came back and said "no more"

Kristine - 25 yeas ago there was no Internet, and there was no problem. How quickly we get used to things, and how quickly they become a necessity... just fascinating

Jon, that would have been pretty cheap internet time if you had gotten to use it. Do  not take a cruise and purchase internet time. They charge by the minute.

Mike - I know, they are crazy. They charge here, but they are smart. $25 and you get 25 hours. But for 6 days only. And if you are here one week, you can add one day for $12, but this would work in the lobby and if you buy 7 days of internet service in the room, then it is $60.
